WELCOME
A warm welcome to all who have come to worship with us. If you are visiting, we are honored by your presence.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please call the rectory. Our Parish serves the needs of this
community in many ways. We offer preparation for Sacraments, education for children and adults, social activities,
assistance to those in difficulty, comfort to the sick and those who mourn a loss.
If we can be of service, please let us know.
For your convenience, we have blue “Let Us Know” Cards in back of church.
We hope you will come again soon.

Why have a Parish Mission?
I have been thinking lately, if a non-Catholic were
to ask me, “why have a parish mission, what is its
point?” what would I say to them? In doing just a
few internet searches about the origin of parish
missions and the great religious orders that
preached them it seems like three words
summarize the whole thing: repentance, reconciliation, and renewal.
Repentance. From the beginning of parish missions,
the idea has been to move people to really, really,
really, take seriously their salvation, that is to say
their eternal destiny. And a huge part of that is
to get serious about our sinfulness. To recognize
our sins; our favorite sins, our hidden sins, the sins
we tell ourselves aren’t so bad, the sins we feel
helpless to give up, the sins we feel that God won’t
forgive, the sins we feel we can’t live without and
to bring them to the Great Physician of Souls the
Merciful Savior who waits to give us His total
forgiveness through the ministry of His priests in the
Sacrament of Penance.
Reconciliation. The actual Confession of sins is only
one part of reconciliation. The first step is actually
wanting to confess; to verbally expel the sins from
our body and soul. So to do that well, one must
make a thorough examination of conscience. To
think back over our whole lives and confess any
mortal sins that come to mind or that we might
have been embarrassed/afraid to confess in the
past. Then one must put their trust in God, to be
not afraid, as St. John Paul II used to say. One
ought to go into that confessional knowing that
you are coming to the most merciful judge in the
universe, to lay everything out before Him and
accept the penance that His priest gives so that a
true, real and deep healing can occur. And to
do all of this as if our eternal souls depended on it,
because they actually do!
Renewal. Then finally, the last step is to take
St. Paul’s admonition to heart, “To renew (or
restore) all things in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:10)
Having totally confessed our sins and done
penance, now we take up the task of renewing
our lives in total conformity to Christ and His
Commandment to Love. Everything in our lives
must be renewed or restored in Christ-like love.
We must, “…be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
and put on the new man, which has been
created according to God in justice and holiness
of truth.” (Ephesians 4: 23-24)
These ideas fit perfectly well into the holy season
of Lent so our Parish Mission (March 10-12) ought
to be a great opportunity for us to really make this
Lent a fruitful one. Plan to attend the evening
talks and invite a friend!
God is so good to us, have a blessed week!

St. Joseph Statue Refinished!
We have the restored
St. Joseph Statue back and it
looks great. Our “Pennies For
St. Joseph” fundraiser raised
$842.59 towards the restoration
costs. The Daughters of Isabella
pledged the remainder balance.
They donated $357.41 towards the total $1200
cost for the restoration.
A big thanks goes to everyone who made this
possible. We are in the process of placing a
small brass plaque on the statue to
commemorate the parish and D of I charitable
gift.
And . . . Have you noticed that the St. Anthony
statue has also been restored. It had been
badly broken and discolored but it now shines. If
you are asking where is it? Look to your left in
the church vestibule as you come into the
church.

“Blessed are you when people hate you,…exclude
and insult you, and denounce your name…on
account of the Son of Man.” - Luke 6:22
All of us have been in situations when someone
has made a negative comment or joke about
God or our Catholic faith. How did you respond?
Did you stay silent or pretend to go along with the
crowd because you didn’t want to cause waves
and then, later, you felt bad? Know that God is
with you all the time, the Holy Spirit will put the right
words in your mouth. Pray for the strength and
courage to proclaim our faith to others, especially
during uncomfortable situations.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN
YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
When I was a child, I often thought of the Church as
something mystical and supernatural. I wasn't wrong in
my understanding of the Body of Christ, for surely the
Church has these characteristics. However, even
though we speak about the foundation of all we are
as Church being the "mystery of Christ," Jesus became
a man so that supernatural element could break into
the natural world in a profound way. What we once
could not see, we now see. What we saw as a God in
a distant place now dwelt among us. It is one of the
aspects of Catholicism that I have grown to
appreciate the most as I have matured: for a Catholic,
the supernatural is natural. The communion of saints is
heavenly and earthly at the same time.
The Beatitudes instruct us about this reality. Pope
Francis reminds us that holiness is "not about swooning
in mystic rapture." Holiness is about living in the real
world and doing extraordinary things with our ordinary
lives. Our stewardship way of life consists of
actions in the natural world that have extraordinary
repercussions.
Do not ever take your simple actions of generosity and
love for granted. As disciples called to a life of
stewardship, we participate in something more
profound than what we can see. We are blessed to be
called to follow Jesus, and we bring blessing to all
those with whom we choose to share ourselves.
