REFLECTIONS FROM OUR SEAS PARISHIONER ~ Laura Brown It's all happening right here! (Photo Above) This is not the usual view that greets us as we park our cars and walk into church each week. But this half-round architectural feature is worthy of our attention. In addition to the visual interest that this graceful curve provides the exterior, it also encloses the most sacred space in our Church. The Chapel. It is home to our gleaming tabernacle. And now, this space is where all the action is. As you watch Father Paul and Father Brandon conduct daily Mass online, you may have noticed them using this light-filled, intimate setting, instead of the large (and empty) main sanctuary. This is fitting. Our pastors are carrying out our Parish faith life right here in this secluded little room. The pandemic has drastically altered daily life outside. But inside the serene Chapel, the Lord continues to be joyfully celebrated. When we sit in the pews each week, we know that the Chapel is there, somewhere behind the altar's magnificent emerald and sapphire stained glass mosaic. Even though it is open to all for prayer, most of us don't wander back there on a frequent basis. But now, the Chapel is the heart of our Church's activity. Look at the cross. I love the impressive scale, a prominent message to all who enter Turtle Rock. Don't you love how the cross structurally embraces the building? Just like how Christ embraces us, tightly holding onto each one of us right now. The image comforts me. I hope this photo feels like a welcomed, tangible connection, a connection we may truly appreciate even more during these days of being disconnected..

Blessings to all of you our dear SEAS Parishioners, stay safe!

Lessons of Life in a Pandemic: Reaching Out and Helping Our SEAS Parishioners

Living through a pandemic is an experience far beyond what anyone of us could begin to imagine. Gratefully, our parish is blessed with the leadership of Father Paul. Father Paul, Father Brandon, Father Bob, Deacon Steve, parish staff and ministry leaders, refused to let pandemic circumstances overshadow our prayers, worship and good works. Pandemic constraints threatened to put us on the brink of spiritual poverty. Our parish members are a community of togetherness and commitment to God's work. We hunger for our community of worship. Our priests and staff did not let us down. The streaming of daily Mass is only one of the ways that Father Paul, is able to keep our community of parish worship and prayer alive. We virtually welcomed Father Paul and Father Brandon into our homes, as we engaged in family worship. Deacon Steve and Mary Anne, blessed us with weekly virtual Bible reflections and words of inspiration. At the direction of Father Paul, Pastoral Council members began to call each of our parishioners to express Easter good wishes and blessings from our parish leaders. Our conversations did not stop at just greetings. We personalized our conversations in hopes of offering help, if needed, from our parish ministries and we prayed together. Our Seas Pastoral Council has aligned with our SEAS Society of Saint Vincent DePaul and our SEAS Knights of Columbus, to orchestrate financial assistance, food delivery and spiritual nourishment to parishioners in need. For the next few weeks, brief experiential reflective thoughts from our Pastoral Council members, will appear in the bulletin. Our members started out with a goal of helping others but quickly felt the love in return from those called. We felt God's presence in each and every call. We have all known times of loneliness and we have learned that the solution to uplift our spirits is love. Abundant love comes from our SEAS community. Our blessings and gratitude to each member of our SEAS parish community. Love and prayers, Darlene Boyd Chair, SEAS Pastoral Council

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protec on we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our pe ons, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Pastor of Manila Parish Pleads for Donations to Avert Starvation During Pandemic

Fr. Rey Daguitera, pastor of San Pablo Apostle Catholic Church, in Tondo, Manila in the Philippines, reports that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the situation in his parish is dire. The 225,000 who live in the 16 villages of Tondo are under the most immediate threat not from the virus, but from hunger, as most are day-laborers and are currently unable to go out and find work. He makes an urgent request that people make donations so that the community can provide needed food. Those who reside in Tondo live in temporary housing, collecting garbage for their livelihood. Residents turn to prostitution and selling internal organs, such as kidneys, as a way to make money. Children are sent to work, in some cases making less than $2 per day peeling garlic. Drug abuse and drug-related violence, crime and human trafficking are widespread. Sickness is common; the local government estimates that 80% are afflicted with tuberculosis. Pollution is a serious problem, with the rivers black and filled with trash and a foul-smelling air. The life expectancy of Tondo residents is 40 to 45 years. Spirit Filled Hearts Ministry has been active in helping the people of Tondo by helping fund the completion of its parish church. As Fr. Rey said, “I dream of having a decent church where they can gather, celebrate sacraments, thank and praise God … when we work together, miracles will happen.”

Please donate what you are able to aid the poor of this community avert starvation, by making a donation, you may mail a check made out to:
