Readings: Acts 2:14, 36-41; Ps. 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want;” 1st Peter 2:20-25; John 10:1-10

JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD

In John’s gospel, Jesus says in his teachings, "Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are

thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come

in and go out and find pasture. A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and

have it more abundantly. (Jn. 10: 7-10). As the Good Shepherd, Jesus is the one who protects and takes care of the sheep; he is

the one who watches over the flock given to him by the Father.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A SHEPHERD?

“This I ask you: be shepherds, with the "odor of the sheep”, make it real, as shepherds among your flock, fishers of men.” (Pope

Francis – Chrism Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, March 28th, 2013). These words said by Pope Francis, to the priests, however, Je-

sus said it in a different way, “The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name

and leads them out.” (Jn. 10:3). To be a shepherd is taking care of the flock entrusted to us. To be a shepherd does not mean to be

a merchant of faith, but to announce faithfully the gospel.

THE COMMUNITY OF THE DISCIPLES ANNOUNCED WITHOUT FEAR THE RISEN LORD.

Brothers and Sisters, it is very interesting how the community of the disciples was encouraged by the Holy Spirit to announce

that Christ is truly “Risen” from the dead. After the death of Jesus on the cross the disciples felt consumed by fear, but after the

resurrection and having Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit on them, they had no fear or shame to announce Jesus to the whole hu-

manity. Like them, we too are called for a commitment to the Lord, and with no fear or shame to announce him in where ever we

are.

Hermanos y hermanas de la Misión Católica y Centro Estudiantil,

JESÚS EL BUEN PASTOR

En el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús dice en sus enseñanzas: “Amén, yo os digo: Yo soy la puerta por donde pasan las ovejas. To-

dos los que vinieron antes de mí, fueron unos ladrones y bandidos; pero las ovejas no les hicieron caso. Yo soy la puerta:

el que por mí entre, será salvo. Será como una oveja que entra y sale y encuentra pastos. “El ladrón viene solamente para

robar, matar y destruir; pero yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia.”(Juan 10: 7-10).

Como el Buen Pastor, Jesús es el que protege y cuida las ovejas; Él es el que vigila el rebaño que le ha dado el Padre.

¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA SER UN PASTOR?

“ Esto os pido: pastoread, con el “olor de las ovejas”, Haz que sea real, como pastores de vuestras ovejas, pescador de hom-

bres.” (Misa del Papa Francisco en la Basílica de San Pedro, 28 de marzo de 2013). Estas palabras fueron dichas por el Papa

Francisco a los sacerdotes, sin embargo, Jesús lo dijo en una forma diferente, “ El portero le abre la puerta, y el pastor llama

a cada oveja por su nombre, y las ovejas reconocen su voz. El las saca del redil.” (Juan10:3). Ser pastor es cuidar del rebaño

que no ha sido confiado. Ser pastor no significa que vamos a ser un comerciante de fe, sino anunciante fiel del Evangelio.

LA COMUNIDAD DE LOS DISCíPULOS ANUNCIA SIN MIEDO LA RESURECCIÓN DEL SEÑOR

Hermanos y hermanas, es muy interesante cómo la comunidad de los discípulos fue alentada por el Espíritu Santo a anunciar que

Cristo es verdaderamente “resucitado” de entre los muertos. Después de la muerte de Jesús en la cruz, los discípulos se sintieron

consumidos por el temor, pero después de la resurección y habiendo soplado el Espíritu Santo sobre ellos, no tuvieron temor ni

verguenza de anunciar a Jesús a toda la humanidad. Como ellos, también nosotros somos llamados a un compromiso con el

Señor, y sin temor ni verguenza debemos anunciarlo en todos los lugares a donde vamos.

Dios de Poder y Gloria, por tu santa voluntad resucitaste a Jesús de la muerte para que

podamos compartir su vida eterna. Al regocijarnos y darte gracias por tu

gran bondad y misericordia ayúdanos a acercarnos a los que no creen todavia en la

verdad del Evangelio. Llénanos de tu compasión para que con

corazones amorosos podamos servir por amor a Ti a los débiles y necesitados.

Fortalece la fe de nuestras familias de modo que podamos crecer juntos en amor. Que Tu alegría crezca en nosotros día a día.
