Call to Action: Senate Bill 360While the Diocese of San Jose will always continue to uphold the highest standards of safety and protection for our children, Senate Bill 360 is a clear affront against the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Seal of Confession. We urge all Catholics to call our local Assembly members to urge them to vote NO on this assault against the freedom of religion. Evan Low is the assemblyman for our district, District 28. His phone number is 408-446-2810.

Here are a couple of options for what to say:Option 1:“My name is _______ from zip code (#####) and I urge Assemblyman Evan Low, District 28, to vote NO on SB 360 because it is an assault against the freedom of religion.”

Option 2 (anonymous):“I am a Catholic community member from zip code (#####) and I urge Assemblyman Evan Low, District 28, to vote NO against SB 360, because it attacks the freedom of religion.”

Come join us for Taize Prayer Around the Cross at CabriniThe Taize (pronounced “teh-ZAY”) prayer service is from an interfaith community founded in Taize, France in 1940. We’ll sing simple chants throughout the service (such as “Jesus, Remember Me”) and have a short reading from scripture followed by moments of silent reflection. There’s a period for your intercessory prayers after which we’ll pray the Our Father. Near the end of service, you’ll be invited to pray at the cross in whatever form you’re comfortable with — kneeling, touching, or standing by the cross. Take all the time you need at the cross as you place your joys and concerns to Christ. Taize services are monthly on Wednesdays 6:45 pm – 7:30 pm in the church. Our next service will be on June 26th.

Youth Ministry Update By Kurt Martin • [email protected]

With DYR concluding last week, it’s now time for us to start our summer schedule. For example, this upcoming week is our next teen Mass. We are looking for peo-ple to help us out with the music, lectors and Eucharistic Ministers. If you can help us with that, please let me know. Not trained but want to help? Let me know we can get you trained!

Furthermore, there will be no youth ministry this week. There will be a party in the gym for Fr. Michael this upcoming Sunday. I encourage you and your family to attend the party after the 5:30 pm Mass.

Hey middle schoolers — heard all the great things about DYR and wish there was one for you? Now there is. Introduc-ing Middle School DYR taking place this year Mon., Aug. 5th – Thurs., Aug. 8th. This retreat is for all incoming 6th graders – incoming 8th graders. It is $339 to go this year. Scholarships are available through the diocese and the parish. Act fast because registration closes on Monday, July 22nd at 8:00 pm. E-mail Kurt for more details.

Spend Summer with a FriendThe call to spend time with Jesus has been part of Catholic tradition since the beginning when Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, mournfully asked his disciples: “Could you not watch with me one hour?” (Mt 26:40).

Summertime is the perfect time to spend with the Lord. You can drop in to our Adoration Chapel at any time or sign up for a regular time slot, if you prefer. Chapel attendance is low on Saturdays and Sunday mid-day, so take an oppor-tunity to unwind from your busy week by coming to visit Jesus on the weekend.

Upcoming Chapel ImprovementsWith a recent generous donation, our Adoration Chapel at Saint Frances Cabrini will be receiving some upgrades soon — beautiful custom chairs, new kneelers, and improved lighting. A sample of the new seating is already in the chapel, so come check it out. Be sure to stop back in often to enjoy the improvements to our chapel while spending valuable time with our Savior.

Birthright Theater NightCome out for a wonderful evening of theater to support Birthright on Saturday, July 13th.

Ticket price of $45 includes 6:00 pm re-ception with great food, raffle baskets and silent auction. Man of La Mancha by San Jose Musical Theater starts at 8:00 pm at Evergreen College Theater. For ticket information call 408-241-8444 or go to birthrightsanjose.org and scroll down to event tickets.

Young Adults Group Summer Study Program: Christus VivitThe St Frances Cabrini Young Adults Group presents a Summer 2019 study program of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation: Christus Vivit. Join the Young Adults at any or all of the sessions planned. The Study Group kicked off on June 19th and will also gather on June 26th, July 10th, July 17th, and July 24th. Sessions begin at 7:00 pm with Evening Prayer followed by Discussion at 7:30 pm and a Social at 8:30 pm. It’s not too late to join; new members ages 18 to 39 are welcome.

Pope Francis writes: “With great affection, I address this Apostolic Exhortation to all Christian young people. It is meant to remind you of certain convictions born of our faith, and at the same time to encour-age you to grow in holiness and in com-mitment to your personal vocation. But since it is also part of a synodal process, I am also addressing this message to the entire People of God, pastors and faithful alike, since all of us are challenged and urged to reflect both on the young and for the young. Consequently, I will speak to young people directly in some places, while in others I will propose some more general considerations for the Church’s discernment.”
