Saint Francis of Assisi Parish April 30, 2017 ● 3rd Sunday of Easter

—Father Jose

Priests’ retreat The priests of the diocese of Baker had a wonderful week of spiritual retreat from Monday, April 24th, to Friday, April 28th, at Mt. Angel. There were many thoughts offered for reflection, and it was a great time of recharging the “spiritual batteries.” Apart from morning prayers, midday prayers, evening prayers and holy hours, we had daily Mass celebrated by Bishop Liam, and two conferences each day by the retreat director. Thanks for all your prayers.

Stained-glass windows The beautiful stained-glass windows were installed just in time for Easter. They are very special and stunning. They bring so much more beauty to our Church. A huge thanks to all the sponsors of these windows. We are planning a blessing and dedication of these windows sometime soon. Thanks to all of you for making the Holy Week and Easter a very meaningful and spiritually enriching celebration. I have been touched by the faith and dedication of so many of you. Thanks for all your generosity and sacrifices.

Pilgrimage I had led a tour to Rome, Assisi, Florence and Turin in 2016 while I was in my previous assignment at Blessed Sacrament Church in Ontario. It was an amazing trip, and so I had then planned on organizing a tour every year. However, my transfer and the move to Bend did not give me any time to plan for a tour this year. I was planning on taking the next tour to the Holy Land.

However, the 100th anniversary of the apparition of Our Blessed Mother in Fatima has led me to go in that direction. So, we are planning a parish pilgrimage to Fatima, Lourdes, Santiago de Compostela, Loyola, and Barcelona from May 7th to May 18th, 2018. It is going to be a very exciting trip that would include many of the popular Marian shrines of Europe. We plan to celebrate Mass at all these places, and I can't wait to make a Holy Mile Walk to Santiago, which is so popular. I hope that at least some of you can join this trip. There are only about 30 seats available, so you may want to get your name in quick.

Detailed itinerary and pricing is available in the narthex of both churches. I want to thank Sue McDonald for putting this tour together. If you need to contact her, send an email to: [email protected] or call (360) 430-8749.

2017 Bishop's Annual Appeal

The 2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Campaign begins this weekend, April 29th and 30th. This

year the theme is Walking in Faith, and the campaign goal is $600,000. Together, we can make

our goal!

With your help, we can assure the continued support of many important programs that help

thousands in our diocese each year: education of our children and seminary students,

evangelization and Christian Initiation, ongoing formation for our clergy—and more. Please

respond generously when you are asked to make your pledge. For more information, please

visit the Diocesan Website at: dioceseofbaker.org.

5 ST. FRANCIS PARISH LIFE

Latin Mass The next Latin Mass in the extraordinary form (sung) is on Sunday, May 14th, at 1 p.m., at the Historic Church.

Confessions will be heard after Mass upon request.

Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet Cards

Remember to pick up your Spiritual Bouquet Card for that special lady in your life after the Masses today or next weekend May 6th/7th. Whether your mother is deceased or living, remember her at all the Masses on Mother’s Day Weekend— May 13th and 14th!

Please return the outer envelope to the offertory basket during Mass or to the Parish Office no later than Wednesday, May 10th, in order to have the name of your loved one placed in the basket at the base of the altar.

Baby Bottle Fundraiser It’s time again for the Baby Bottle Fundraiser to raise money for the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC).

Baby bottles will be distributed at all the Masses next weekend, May 6th and 7th. Please take a bottle and fill it with your loose change. Then bring the bottle back to Mass on the weekend of May 27th and 28th.

All proceeds go to PRC to help moms and their babies.

Rosary Rally

for Our Lady of Fatima On May 13th, at 12 noon, we will be holding a Rosary Rally for the 100th Anniversary of the apparition to the children of Fatima, Portugal. Thousands of rosary rallies will be held across this nation and many more around the world to pray for peace!

Please consider praying the rosary for PEACE, which is so badly needed in this time of unrest and atrocities committed around the U.S. and the world. Only a small bit of time out of your day will make a difference, and our combined prayers will surely be heard in heaven. The rally will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Historic Church on the north side, handicap ramp. Bring your rosaries!

Please contact Rosemary Moore at (541) 306-8731, or: [email protected] for more information.

A Rose for Mother On Mother’s Day weekend, May 13th and 14th, the Knights of Columbus will be handing out paper roses to all St. Francis parish mothers. A free-will donation may be made for Grandma’s House—the local home for unwed Mothers.

—Thank you, Frank Krupicka
