—Father Jose

Becoming Good Stewards Jesus has called each of us to follow him and we have responded to that call by our baptism. In our fast-paced, consumer-oriented society, it is often difficult to live our baptismal call. But there is a solution. In the Bible, God asks us to live as good stewards. Stewardship is a way of life that brings God into the center of our daily living. It is a way of living each day in gratitude for all the blessings that God has given to us. It is becoming His intentional disciples. The goal of our life is holiness, and stewardship is the practical way to get there.

In 1992, the U.S. Catholic Bishops released a pastoral letter on stewardship entitled: Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response. I would encourage everyone to read this to get to know more about stewardship. My time is limited to give a detailed explanation of stewardship, but the pastoral letter gives a wonderful and detailed explanation of stewardship. It can be found on the USCCB Website http://www.usccb.org/stewardship/disciplesresponse.pdf.

The bishops’ letter on stewardship did not deal with money because they realized that money was not the problem. Money was only a symptom of something else. The Catholic Church in this country had a very humble beginning. Today, U.S. Catholics have a network of churches, schools and charitable institutions. They are the result of the stewardship of our Catholic ancestors.

You will have heard of the 3 “T”s of stewardship—time, talent and treasure. In implementing stewardship, at the beginning of this year we completed the third “T”—the “treasure” section of stewardship. As we prepare for our Ministry Fair, the weekend of June 10th and 11th, I would like to reflect on the other two “T”s—“Time” and “Talent” and how we can use our time and talents to bring God to the center of our lives and live as good stewards.

As members of the body of Christ, we are called to be good stewards. It is within that body—the Church—that we all have the opportunity to use our gifts to build the kingdom of God. We have different and unique gifts given to us by God. When we bring these gifts together in our parish, we can build God’s kingdom here on earth.

Salutation to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Hail, holy Lady, Most holy Queen, Mary, Mother of God, Ever Virgin;

Chosen by the most holy Father in heaven, Consecrated by Him, With His most Holy beloved Son. And the Holy Spirit, the comforter.

Oh, you descended, and in you still remains All the fullness of grace And every good.

Hail, His palace. Hail, His tabernacle. Hail, His robe. Hail, His handmaid. Hail, His Mother. And hail, all holy virtues,

Who, by the grace and inspiration of the Holy Spirit Are poured into the hearts of the faithful So that, faithless no longer, They may be made faithful servants of God Through you.

—St. Francis of Assisi

Rosary Rally Thank You! Thanks to all who attended the Rosary Rally for Our Lady of Fatima on May 13th! You can be assured that our prayers to Our Lady were heard loud and clear to heaven! We had more than 40 people show up who braved the cold weather, but no rain or snow beat down on our heads! And combined with more than 4,000 Rosary Rallies that were held from Coast to Coast, we made an impact here in Bend. The next Rosary Rally for Our Lady of Fatima will be on Tuesday, June 13th, at 11 a.m., at the Historic Church. We will again gather on the north side ramp. Fr. Jose would like to see us praying the Rosary once a month—from now until October, so please contact him at [email protected] or Rosemary Moore at [email protected] if you have ideas for expanding this great peaceful Prayer Ministry in our faith community for at least the next five months.

Ministry Fair News!

Come to the Ministry Fair on the weekend of June 10th and 11th to celebrate and learn about all the exciting things being done here at St. Francis! It is simply amazing!

The Fair will include interesting displays from the various parish and school ministries, including service to those in need, the school, faith formation, community building, and support services.

You can explore the many ways in which you can participate and sign-up to volunteer.

New to the Parish? There will be a special table just for you! Stop by the “New Neighbors” table to learn more!

Refreshments will be served—you can’t beat free food!

♦ Coffee and Donuts: After the 7:30 & 10 a.m. Masses by the fabulous Hospitality Committee!

♦ Hispanic Delights: After the 12:30 p.m. Mass

Special Feature! Stop by the “Community Involvement” table, and let us know how you are bringing Christ to the broader Bend community. Do you volunteer for business or labor organizations? Are you a sports coach or scout leader or involved at your children’s school? Do you participate in health organizations? No matter what you do, let us know so that we can be amazed at the total impact St. Francis is having in our community.

Here are the details:

♦ When? June 10th & 11th

♦ What time? After all the Masses at the New Church

♦ Where? In the Community Center at the New Church only (so you 4:30 p.m. Mass goers will have to swing by the New Church during the day to see what’s happening)
