JULY 19, 2015

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

THEME: In the midst of our busy lives, in the middle of a hot summer season, how we would welcome Jesus’ invitation, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. “Yet perhaps that is just what we need to do. Run-down batteries need to be re-charged, and so do we. Let us pray today that we can find a way soon to rest and be renewed by the Spirit of God. “‘I myself will gather the remnant of my flock from all the lands to which I have driven them and bring them back to their meadow; there they will increase and multiply. I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them so that they need no longer fear and tremble; and none shall be missing, says the Lord.’… ‘when He disembarked and saw the vast crowd His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd…’”. One of the oldest biblical images is that of a shepherd. From King David to the gospel of John and Jesus stating He is the Good Shepherd. Peter was told by the Risen Christ ‘feed my sheep.’ With the same concern reflected in the gospel today, may I recall priests, bishops or popes in our life and lifetime who truly filled that role for me. Was it my parish priest who made Christ present in celebrating the sacraments of baptism, gave me the Eucharist or taught me catechism? Was it the bishop who laid hands on me, calling for the Holy Spirit to strengthen me? Was it the bishop of Rome, St. John 23rd or St. John Paul II of our own lifetime who inspired and led us into the third millennium? Is it Pope Francis, humbly bringing the joy of the gospel to a world mired in war, hate, poverty and indifference? As I ponder I pray for the names and faces who have come to mind and shepherded me, and pray that others will respond to the Shepherd’s call today to ‘feed His sheep.’ Father Domenic COLLECTION: The collection for the weekend of July 04 & 05 amounted to $2,268.00. We thank you for your continued generosity.

Parishioners: Please pray earnestly for our members who have drifted away from our church. I invite you to pray the following prayer often. Fr. Domenic Dear Lord Jesus,

I know you desire that we all draw near to you, to receive all the love and blessings you have for us. And, like the Good Shepherd who goes out after the lost sheep, you want us to help you reach out to our brothers and sisters who may have drifted away from you and your Church.

I therefore ask with confident hope that you prepare the hearts of our brothers and sisters to receive our invitation to return to you. May your precious blood wash away the effects of any wounds they may have experienced in their past that might keep them from you; may you send your holy angels to protect them from evil influences; and may you shower them with every blessing to prepare them to receive our invitation with openness of heart. I ask this in your Holy Name. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. During the summer the 4:30 PM Saturday Vigil Mass is celebrated in the School Chapel.

SHARING THE GRACE OF OUR CATHOLIC FAITH ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

THE CALIX SOCIETY meets every Tuesday at 6 pm, on the 3rd floor of St. Gabriel’s Hall Annex. All are welcome. For more info call Morgan Youngblood 215-680-8733.

Are you registered in the parish?

Some may think that they are registered simply because they went to school here, or were baptized here, or because their parents are members. If you never receive any mail from the parish, then you are not registered. Once you become an adult, you must register in your own name. If you are not sure, give a call to the parish secretary to confirm that we have you on our rolls. We’d love to have you as full-fledged members of this community of faith.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic, or just has some questions call Father Domenic at the rectory at 215.463.4060

IT’S TIME TO COME HOME!

If you know someone who has been alienated from the Church, please suggest they contact Father Domenic who will very gently receive them and listen to their story without judgment. Maybe they are ready for the opportunity to be lovingly welcomed back into the Church. Take the initiative to invite them. An easy way to do this is to use the “Catholics Coming Home” letter available on the table in the back of church. Please Remember to Support our Parish During the Summer Months. Thank You!

First Reading: Jeremiah 23:1-6 In this passage, God denounces false leaders who have scattered his people. He promises that they will be reunited and led by one who is just and wise. Second Reading: Ephesians 2:13-18 Paul explains that through Jesus Christ, there is no longer hostility between Gentile and Jew. Instead, through the Spirit of Christ, both groups become one body and are equal in the eyes of God. Gospel: Mark 6:30-34 The apostles returned after their first mission and told Jesus what they had done and taught. He told them to rest, but the people kept coming to them. So they went to find a private place, but the people learned where they were going and arrived first. Jesus felt sorry for them and decided to teach them instead of resting.
