Prayer to St. Michael Saint Michael, the Archangel,

Defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the

wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him,

we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly

hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan

and all the evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

AMEN!

In 1884, Pope Leo XIII requested that Catholics throughout the world say the following prayer after each mass to seek St. Michael’s protection for the church, which was under attack by Satan. Pope Francis has asked us to resume the practice.

Cemetery News Please note that the cemeteries will officially close on November 1, when the water will be

shut off. However, the gates will remain open until after Veterans’ Day (November 11). Burials will continue until the ground is frozen.

ALL SOULS DAY ENVELOPES Friday November 2 is All Souls Day, for those who use envelopes: use the envelope in your pack. For those who don’t: use the envelopes provided in the Church.

Please list your deceased loved ones in the space provid-ed and return the envelope to us soon as you can. Your intentions will be placed on the altar throughout the month of November. There is no need to enclose any money. If you do include an offering, a Mass will be cele-brated (here or elsewhere) for your specified intention or for your deceased loved ones (for each $10 offering). Please call the office if you have any questions (603-934-5013).

This Thursday, November 1, is All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 8 AM in Franklin and 7 PM in Tilton. Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) is not a Holy Day of Obligation and there is only one Mass at 8AM in Frank-lin.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

What can I do for you? Now here’s a phrase we’ve all heard a thousand times (or more!). It is usu-ally said by a clerk who is hoping to sell us something. In today’s gospel, Jesus says these words to blind Bartimaeus but He’s not selling him anything. He wants to use His skills, talents and faith to do some-thing for Bartimaeus, to change his life for the better. Though Jesus did not use these words all the time, I’ll bet they were at the back of His mind every time He met someone. What a great line, not just to say, but especially to live by. The gospels are filled with in-stances when Jesus touched lives and made them better. Now imagine if, every time we met someone, the first thing that popped in our mind was: “What can I do for him/her?” It would set the tone for a great re-lationship. If everyone started saying it (and meant it), we’d be well on our way to a more caring and com-

passionate society. We could be so involved in each other’s lives! Of course, there’d still be one problem: the response. Too many people (myself included) usually answer: “Nothing. I’m OK”. We either don’t want to cause them any trouble, we’d rather find it or do it ourselves, or we don’t want to be beholding to anyone, so we say, “No thanks!”. In the process, we frustrate other people’s desire to help us, their oppor-tunity to do a good deed and their chance to get in-volved in our life. Of course, after a number of rejec-tions, they stop saying this phrase, start minding their own business and wait to be asked. Since we’re too proud to ask for help, we struggle on our own, some-times wondering why they aren’t offering. Imagine how frustrated Jesus would have been if Bartimaeus had said: “No thanks! There’s really nothing I’d like to see!”

20th Annual Angel Fair The time has come again for our Angel Fair. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer to make this Fair a success.

Please see ‘What’s Happing’ - in this bulletin to see the time of pre–Fair activity. We can always use more help. No need to sign up—just show up! Raffle Tickets: The success of the raffle relies on each family doing their part to sell tickets. Extra tick-ets can be found in the back of both churches. If you have not already bought yours please do what you can. Remember to bring those return address labels to use for the various raffles—they expedite filling out the tickets! If you are working in the Fair and you park in the handicap spaces please be sure that you move your car by 3 PM so that there are spaces for those who will be attending Mass at 4:00 PM. Thank you.

Enjoy the day and come be part of our Parish Family!

SELLING CEMETERY LAND The Town of Tilton is interested in buying 5 acres of land from St. John’s Cemetery to build a new police station. This is the land they are currently leasing for their athletic fields. We have enough land left in the other section for at least 20 more years of lot sales and we really do not need this land. Both the Finance Council and the Pastoral Council have vot-ed unanimously to proceed with the sale. There are many steps left to take (appraisals, surveying, approval by dioce-san boards, setting a price, town meeting, contract) before we see the money. We have drawn up a “wish list” of capi-tal improvements we’d like to tackle with this money. More details as things progress.

The Baskets for the Angel Fair are complete! Thank you for all your help in filling these baskets. Come take a chance on this array of baskets at the

Angel Fair next weekend!

Be Sure to join us at the 20th Annual Angel Fair Saturday, November 3 from 8AM to 3PM !
