CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL! There are so many people facing chal-lenges they have no control over or could never have predicted. With your support they have access to Catholic

Charities programs and services. Families, children and adults – including our fellow community mem-bers need your support more than ever. Please con-sider moving lives forward with a gift to Catholic Charities this year. You’ll provide comfort, educa-tion, mentoring, and most importantly, hope for those who are facing difficult times. Our Parish Goal: $17,500

The Carport is coming down! Rust and rot have turned it into a hazard. We’ve got to take it down before it collapses on the truck (or the pas-tor’s car!) The Knights of Colum-bus are organizing a work bee for next Sat. May 18th at 8 AM. If you like tearing things apart, bring your tools and join us!

300 Club Meal - Thanks to Judy Tilton and her crew for a great meal. Thanks also to those who attended. Your support and encouragement keeps this important fundrais-er going from year to year. Please note that next year’s club is already underway. We’ll have our first drawing at the end of May. Come sign up today. So many chances to win. And, of course, St. Gabriel’s is always the big winner.

Prayers Requested All our moms, those still with us and those who are with the Lord.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intentions for May Church in Africa: That the Church in Africa, through the com-mitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for the continent

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Mother’s Day Without Mom. I remember mama! And I remember looking forward to Mother’s Day. Searching for just the right card: the one that could express my feelings better than I could. Looking through the sales fliers for that special gift that she would find thoughtful and useful. Choosing a restau-rant that we hadn’t been to in a while and that special-ized in her favorite foods. And don’t forget her favor-ite yellow roses. We had some great Mothers’ Days! But it all came to an end in 2005 (14 years ago). The following Mothers’ Day, the second Sunday in May was just another date on the calendar. Without mom, I had no reason to celebrate. Then I realized that mom was still alive (in heaven, with God, of course). Maybe I could no longer spoil her, but I could certainly

honor her. Why couldn’t I gather with my siblings and recall the good old days? How about breaking open those old family photo albums and taking a trip down memory lane? I could put a yellow rose in front of her picture in the den or visit her gravesite. I could drive out to her favorite spot at the beach or make a dona-tion to her favorite charity. I could even have a Mass said for her. Mom’s body may have been taken away from my presence, but her spirit, gener-osity, strong faith and love are just as real and present as they ever were. Happy Mothers’ Day, mom. I love you more than ever!
