Sacrament of Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism should be celebrated as soon as possible after birth. Therefore parents should contact the parish office prior to the child’s birth. This will allow adequate time for the necessary preparation of the parents and the Godparents.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: On Thursday’s from 6:15-7:00 PM at St Gerard or by appointment.
First Reconciliation and First Communion, Sacrament of Confirmation: Please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education (María Morales) for more information.
Sacrament of Marriage: Requires at least nine months of preparation before the Marriage. Contact the Pastor, through the parish office, to start the process.
Pastoral Care: Please contact the parish office if you are aware a parishioner is sick and desires to receive the Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick or a visit from the Pastor.
Parish Registration forms are available through the office.

Orientation for the Families in Christian Formation “Parents have the unique responsibility for the education of their children; they are the first educators or catechists. They teach by their witness of the faith, through their values and attitudes, by their Christian example of love for Christ and his church. When children are baptized, parents accept the responsibility to raise their children in the practice of the faith . . .” (National Directory for Catechesis 234-235) In order to help families with this responsibility, we will have an orientation for parents and children/youth who have registered in Christian Formation on Sunday, September 17
th after the
Spanish Mass at St. Andrew’s Social Hall.
Please call the office or send an email to make an appointment with Maria Morales if you have not registered your child. After August 21
st the fees are $35 per child or $80

Para ayudar a las familias con esta responsabilidad, el domingo 17 de septiembre después de la misa en español en el salón social de la iglesia San Andrés tendremos una orientación para los padres y los niños/jóvenes que se han inscrito en las clases de educación religiosa.

Catequistas y Facilitadores de grupos. El 7 de octubre del 2017 de 9:00 AM a 3:30 PM en el Pastoral Center,
7800 Carousel Ln; Richmond, VA 23294 Objetivo: El Pathways para catequistas consta de dos sesiones de entrenamientos para formar a los nuevos catequistas y facilitadores de grupos. El Pathways ayuda a los participantes a tener nuevas herramientas y habilidades. También, se les introduce en la doctrina de la Iglesia. La diócesis requiere tres horas de formación continua cada año.

VIRTUS TRAINING: A current session listing and registration instructions for the VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children for Adults” program for the Richmond Diocese is available at https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list2.cfm?theOrgID=18860&theme=0. All volunteers & catechists are required (parents are encouraged) to attend a training session. There is no charge for this training. Next training session is on Wednesday, September 6 at 6:30PM at Saint Andrew’s Church (in the youth room). Session lasts 3
hours.
This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 17, 2017. The 2017 theme will be "Living as Missionary Disciples." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
Prayer for Catechists.
O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family.
We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs.
May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles.
We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church.
Loving and merciful Father, who instituted the family as an instrument of your fruitful love and raised it to be a sacrament of the love of your Son for his Church, send forth your Holy Spirit to forgive us for our sinful failures, to heal the personal and social wounds that afflict us, to bring consolation to the vulnerable among us, and to enable us to reach out in compassionate care to all those families in need.
Make possible within us and for us what only you can do. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
SACRAMENTO DE BAUTISMO Próxima charla pre bautismal: Será el sábado 23 de septiembre a las 3pm en el salón grande de la Iglesia San Gerardo Próxima fecha de bautismo: Será el sábado 30 de septiembre. Existe un límite de 10 niños o hasta 6 familias por cada sábado.
Las familias interesadas deben: 1.) asistir a misa todos los domingos, 2.) Estar inscritas en la parroquia, 3.) Tener llena la forma de inscripción al bautismo. Los niños NO deben venir a la plática para evitar interrupciones.
Este año, la Iglesia celebrará el Domingo Catequético el 17 de septiembre del 2017. Esta serie se centra en el tema "Viviendo como discípulos misioneros". Aquellos a quienes la comunidad ha designado para servir como catequistas serán llamados a recibir la comisión de su ministerio. El Domingo Catequético es una maravillosa oportunidad para reflexionar sobre el papel que tiene cada persona, en virtud del Bautismo, en transmitir la fe y dar testimonio del Evangelio. El Domingo Catequético es una oportunidad para que todos vuelvan a dedicarse a esta misión como comunidad de fe.

CATECHIST MEETING. We will have an informational meeting
this Thursday, August 31 at 6:00pm in the large classroom. We will evaluate the classes and groups and will review the calendar and the materials for this year. Become a Hospice Volunteer
Hospice is a special way of caring for individuals who are in the
final stage of their lives due to terminal illness. Volunteers are
needed to provide support to the patients and their families There
are several ways to participate. Home visits, friendship and
companionship; reading aloud, playing cards; respite for the
primary care giver; running errands or helping with chores,
listening are ways to assist in a more direct way with the family
or client. You may also volunteer by covering the phones,
making copies, filing, prepare newsletters mailings, sending
bereavement mailings, helping with fundraising events or public
speaking in the community. If you have a compassionate heart
and want to help others in the hospice environment please

St Francis Food Pantry needs volunteers on Monday —
Thursday for 2—3 hours a day. Volunteers will assist to put
non-perishable food bags together for walk-in clients and
families. They are also in need of volunteers to enter client

Adult Formation to organize and coordinate faith formation
activities such as Bible Studies, teaching series, and prayer
