EVERYONE’S catechetical responsibility flows from the waters of baptism. At baptism, all Christians are commissioned to share in Jesus' ministry. This is an essential part of being Christian. To be baptized is to stand as one of Jesus' disciples, ready to do his work. Please act on this responsibility and become a catechist. For new catechists, training will be provided on February 3

rd

2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Salem. Please let María Morales know as soon as possible if you are interested in this wonderful and rewarding ministry.

Taking the First Step: Keys to Sharing Faith Person-to-Person SAINT PAUL STREET EVANGELIZATION The Life of Discipleship - Strengthening your Faith through Prayer & Sacrament

The beginning of wisdom is fear of the LORD, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

"Thanks solely to this encounter – or renewed encounter – with God's love, which blossoms into an enriching friendship, we are liberated from our narrowness and self-absorption. We become fully human when we become more than human, when we let God bring us beyond ourselves in order to attain the fullest truth of our being. Here we find the source and inspiration of all our efforts at evangelization. For if we have received the love which restores meaning to our lives, how can we fail to share that love with others?" (Evangelii Gaudium, no. 8)

A missionary disciple must find a balance between the contemplative life and the active life of Christian service. Christians who do not strengthen their faith through prayer and the sacraments run the risk of being caught up in the allure of the world and falling back into sinful habits. Pope Francis warns us against being trapped by a consumer mentality and cautions us to be detached from the things in the world by finding fulfillment in God: "The Church is sent by Jesus Christ as the sacrament of the salvation offered by God. Through her evangelizing activity, she cooperates as an instrument of that divine grace which works unceasingly and inscrutably." (Evangelii Gaudium, no. 112)

Evangelists should first be encouraged to embrace the Gospel fully by acknowledging their complete dependence on God's mercy, by professing their faith at Mass, and by repenting of their sins and receiving the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation regularly. Further, evangelists should develop a devotional life, such as praying the Rosary for the conversion of souls, practice Christian meditation such as Lectio Divina, praying the Rosary for the conversion of souls, or, as Pope Francis asked, by consecrating themselves daily to Jesus… it will continue…

October, Month of the Rosary. The Church has

dedicated the month of October to honor Mary by praying the Holy Rosary. Indeed the word “rosary” means “crown of roses.” The Church recommended all to pray the rosary, which consisted in reciting David’s 150 psalms; it was considered to be a prayer that was very pleasing to God and the fountain of many graces to those who prayed it. However, this recommendation was only followed by the few who were learned and literate, not by the majority of Christians. So the Church then suggested those who could not read, could recite 150 Hail Marys in place of the 150 psalms, split into 15 decades. This “short rosary” was then referred to as The Psalter of Our Lady.

(catholic.net)

Adonai, Lord and Master,

Many are the journeys your people have taken:

Abraham’s journey led from fear to understanding;

Moses’ journey led from bondage to liberty; the disciples’ journey led from death to new life.

Even today, your people journey—immigrants and refugees, pilgrims and nomads,

searching for hope, searching for opportunity, searching for you.

Lord, I know that I too am called to journey. Yet too many times, I have heard your call,

my feet have remained unmoved . Continue to call me

beyond my comfort and into encounter And when I meet a companion on the road,

may we find you in each other’s embrace.

Let us share the journey. Amen

el viaje de Abraham lo levó del miedo al entendimiento;

el viaje de Moisés lo condujo de la esclavitud a la libertad;

Sin embargo, demasiadas veces, he escuchado tu llamado,
