Stewardship News: 2015 School Annual Appeal Thank you to all who have made a donation towards this effort. To date we have received over $23,000; this is tremendous and we are extremely grateful. Regardless of whether or not you have had children attend St. James, you are part of this. You are one of the many stewards who invest in our future. Not because it is easy; not because it is inexpensive – but because of your belief and your faith in what can be. You may mail your gift to the rectory, or on line at www.faithdirect.net; our parish number is VA50. Please join us in investing in the future. “On this fourth Sunday of Advent as we near the birth that changed the world, join me in investing in young men and women who can, in their own way, change our world.“ ~Fr. Posey

From Our Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

From the earliest days of our faith, we have used symbols to differentiate ourselves. Christ himself used parables to reveal the message of salvation and a promise fulfilled.

Last year we sought to make tangible this message by our Christmas Bracelet project. Now, one year later I still see many parishioners wearing theirs; some a little ragged from use but all whole in spirit. It has been for me, as I pray it has been for you: a daily reminder of the bonds we share as Catholic Christians as well as the blessings

of our salvation delivered in a manger. I have seen people with these on at basketball games, at a stop light, at the grocery store, at so many places where they are the most tangible witnesses to our baptismal promise.

So popular were these bracelets that we have brought them back! In the rear of the Church you will find resupplied baskets. Amidst parties, decorations and obligations, we need to focus on outward displays of grace: Mass, Confession, and above all, the Eucharist.

I invite you to take one and remember that you are not alone on your faith journey; we travel together and as one.

“My son, observe the commandment of your father and do not forsake the teaching of your mother; Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you walk about, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.…” (Proverbs 6:20-22)

~Fr. Posey

Parking on Park Avenue THANK YOU for utilizing all of our parking options for Sunday Masses. Please avoid parking in front of our neighbors’ homes on Park Avenue. In addition to our parking lots at Park & Spring Streets (A Lot) and at Park & Oak Streets (B Lot), you are welcome to park in the Teacher’s Lot (C Lot) which can be accessed via Broad Street.

Please take a Christmas Bracelet

found in the baskets in the rear of the Church. Wear yours and wear Christ

throughout the year.

Magnificat Year of Mercy Companion Available Would you like a beautiful Year of Mercy companion book? Books are available now on the Book Rack in the Church vestibule.

St. James Mothers Group December 21 All mothers are welcome to join us on Monday, December 21 at 10:00am-11:30am in Heller Hall. Childcare is provided. The topic will be ""Living with a Spouse of a Different Faith Level." Given the central role of faith-based values in our lives, living respectfully with someone adhering to a different faith or different level of faith can be challenging. What are good ways to nourish our relationship, our faith and the faith of our children under these circumstances? We will have a round-table discussion.

Visit of Icon of Divine Mercy at St. James January 16-23, 2016 Come pray the chaplet or just sit in silence as we host a special icon of Divine Mercy commissioned by Bishop Loverde from Polish artist Anna Sekowska for the diocese. Stay tuned for more details, and consider signing up via the parish website to host a replica of the icon during this week. Host families will pledge to pray one rosary and one Divine Mercy chaplet each day. The special intention of these prayers and our parish activities during the visit of the icon is for peace and healing in families.

Jubilee of Mercy In proclaiming the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis proclaimed his desire that this Holy Year be “steeped in mercy,” as we disciples “go out to every man and woman,” bringing the “balm of mercy” to “believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!” (Misericordiae Vultus, 5). In her visitation of Elizabeth, Mary beautifully presents

just such an image. Despite the perils of her pregnancy, not to mention her preoccupations as a young unwed mother, Mary instantly, unselfishly, “goes out” of herself, hastening far and over dangerous terrain, to “bring the balm of God’s tender mercy” in assistance rendered to her older relative. Since baptism and the Eucharist have made us, in a way, bearers of the living Christ within as Mary was, such selfless “going out” of ourselves to be of loving service to others in mercy should especially mark our Christmas season this Jubilee Year. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J.
