The Sanctuary Candle that will be lit this week during our Eucharistic Celebration is in memory of Stephanie Germann. This is a gift from her mother, Jeanne Germann.

We’re almost at the end of Lent. I pray your Lent was significant and you drew closer to the Lord by your acts of penance and self-denial. Today is Palm Sunday of Passion Sunday when we recall Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus entered Jerusalem, descending from the Mount of Olives riding “a colt, the foal of a donkey” as predicted by the prophet Zachariah. Ezekiel prophesied that the Messiah would return descending the Mount of Olives crossing the Kidron Valley and entering Jerusalem by the Golden Gate — the Gate of Mercy. The people see this and recognize their king. They take off their cloaks and lay them on the ground before him. Others cut palm branches or olive branches and lay them on the ground so the colt will have a smoother stride. They do this as they would have done for a beloved king, a descendant of the House of David. Today also we recall the importance of this event. Jesus enters Jerusalem as a King but his real purpose is to be our King, our Lord and Savior. We recall this by reading the Passion of the Lord. We do this to place before us the central tenet of our faith: that God became man suffered and died for our sins because of his love and mercy. He did it for us, that we may have eternal life. So, what is our response? Do we cut palms and olive branches? Do we place our cloaks on the ground so the donkey can walk on them? All during Lent we sacrificed. Did we sacrifice as much as we intended? Did we sacrifice as much as we could? What is it that we could give the Lord that he would like? King David wrote in Psalm 51 “A humble and contrite heart, O Lord, you will not spurn.” That is what he asks of us. A clean heart and a clear conscience. The best way to achieve this is by the Sacrament that He left us, the Sacrament of Reconciliation where he pours out his healing love and mercy upon us. Have you done this?

Y tu, ¿Has hecho esto?

REFLEXIONES
