Dear Friends in Christ,

Comparing this Easter’s celebration with last year’s and that of previous years, I am feeling cathartic. To say that this pandemic has upended our lives and our society is quite an understatement. Nothing can equal in recent memory what we are experiencing right now.

Contamination and contagion, closing of churches, businesses, schools and communities became the endemic terms connected to COVID-19, as codified in medical books.

Corona Virus, popularly (or notoriously) called was emerging as part of our lexicon when we welcomed the New Year, if we recall. Some of us were caught unprepared when it did come. Some considered it as a hoax, thus the clumsy comeuppance once confronted. Close to a month now and closed to physical contact with friends and even loved ones, we have been critically cowered by it.

Consequently and in a positive way, if there is anything that has enhanced more the connection we have with each other during these times, it is our continued and constant communication. Using the common medium of transmitting and receiving data through circuitous computer bytes, we became creative in channeling our sacraments and sacred rituals. We have our virtual presence now in Masses, Adorations of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosaries and other Church practices. Our unaccounted attendance, which may be regarded as countless considering the compassing clasp of the Internet, to these livestreamed events are more viral than the virus itself.

Clear as day, this pandemic has changed us, hopefully, for the better and is challenging us for more. We have known considerable acts of kindness and charity, from strangers and friends alike. We became more proximal, and not just physically, in our homes. We are more of a community now, though socially distant from one another, than years past in combatting our common enemy.

Comforting us in our cradled fears and doubts, however, Christ comes to us in a very timely manner through the centrality of Easter. Our Savior has conquered death and crushed evil through His crucifixion. His Cross curbed the crown of thorns, woven by a crass and unjust system but casted by covenantal love. His Resurrection confounded the unbelievers and confuted the doubters. His light shone in the darkness of the tomb and set everyone aright in the biggest cathartic event of all time—the Resurrection of the Carpenter from Nazareth.

Christ, Jesus the Christ, the God-Man, is alive! And so, as we journey forward to the weeks ahead, our hearts are calmed down and our spirits are held up. There is an end to this darkness, this evil disease, this convoluting fear because nothing can outsmart God, nothing can surpass God’s power, and nothing can separate us from God’s love. Not even any virus beginning with the letter ‘C.’

With my prayers for you and your loved ones,

Fr. PJ

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

Written by a fellow parishioner

Here we are a week a er Easter Sunday, how did you spend your Easter day? Hopefully you started the day thanking God for another day, your life, your family and the power given to us all through his resurrec on.

Hopefully you a ended mass with Our Lady of Hope Easter Mass on the Internet or one of the masses on TV through religious programming.

If you were home with family, hopefully you appreciated your me together. If you or one of your family members had to be on the front lines, I hope that they have been protected and are s ll safe today. For those who were alone on this day of celebra on for whatever reason, may you have spent me thinking of and apprecia ng your memories of Easter past. Remember Jesus willingly rode into Easter week knowing what was to become of him, have you been willingly going through your days with whatever hardship you may have had to endure? Do you believe that whatever you are doing is serving God's plan for you in the world? Finally I would like to warmly thank Father PJ, our deacons, our sisters, other religious, staff and all of our parishioners who are working behind the scenes to maintain con nuity and order in our in our religious life for our security and Peace of Mind . Thank you, love you all.
