Messages from the Grand Knight

IN MEMORY OF DENNIS REITER

We want to recognize our great sadness at the unexpected passing of our dear friend and Brother Dennis Reiter. Besides his many other roles, Dennis served three terms as Grand Knight of the council and had been recognized with our highest awards including Knight of the Year and had recently become a Honorary Life member. Dennis over the years had established himself as the very heart and soul of the Glencoe council and for many he was the face of the council. His ready smile and gentle spirit will be sorely missed and our prayers go out to him and his family at this difficult time.

ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - June 6-9: This year's St. Pius X Catholic Vacation Bible school is scheduled for June 6-9 from 8:15 - 11:45 a.m. We will be praying for our nation with our curriculum, "America, the Beautiful! Jesus Dwelling in Our Land.” We are in need of two more classroom teachers. If you are VIRTUS trained and would like to spend a week helping young people further develop their faith, contact Sue Mielke at 320-395-2571 or [email protected].

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Seniors in high school will gather with Fr. Tony for religious education on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in his office in Glencoe. You are all invited to join.

MASS INTENTIONS: We are in need of intentions for Masses. Please contact Carla in the parish office if you would like a Mass offered for your intentions in May and June.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Tootsie Roll Drive: The Knights of Columbus will sponsor their annual Tootsie Roll Drive the weekend of April 23/24, 2016. Donations are accepted for the Tootsie Rolls and 100% of the money raised goes to benefit people with intellectual disabilities. The St. Christopher Council at St. Pius X designates most of the funds raised to support the Fall Classic of the Special Olympics, a three day event, with nearly 1200 athletes and 400 coaches from across the state sponsored entirely by the Minnesota Knights of Columbus. Please help the KC’s support this important ministry.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONNECTION: “Is this the best we can do?” How many times have you heard that recently, especially concerning the upcoming Presidential Party nominations? I shudder at the thought of ever hearing that in reference to our RE Program. As our Second Graders make their First Communions this weekend, that question would be the last I would have for Mrs. Thalmann and Mrs. Urban. They, along with the parents, have worked quite diligently to ensure that the kiddos are as prepared as they can be for this big step in their spiritual lives. Much like the rest of our Catechists, their devotion to the kiddos is exhaustive, exemplary and inspiring. As our RE year is drawing to a close and as our beloved Catechists are busy polishing up their final lessons for our kiddos this season, let us all pray that both Holy Hep-Kat and kiddo bring their very best, that we may not even be inclined in the least to ask if they could not have done better this year, but only raise the questions of how to improve even more for the next go round.

CATHOLIC UNITED FINANCIAL: CUF will host their annual 500 card party on Monday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. No admission. Men and women welcome! CAMPBELL'S LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM UPDATE: For the past 42 years, Campbell has proudly offered Labels for Education which has contributed more than $110 million in school supplies to tens of thousands of schools across the U.S. It is one of a number of ways in which we support America's kids and families as part of our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen. During the past year, we've been assessing the impact of these programs and through this, we've seen that participation in Labels for Education has declined considerably. Sadly, it is at the point where we have no choice but to make the very difficult decision to wind down the program. There will be changes for next year's program starting August 1, 2016. During the 2016 - 2017 school year and beyond we will continue to honor labels only from schools currently registered with the program. We will remove the Labels for Education logo mid-2016 and expect there will be a limited number of products that contain these labels in stores through 2017. We would like to thank all the schools and families that have made Labels for Education so special over the years. We are proud to have been part of your communities and appreciate the support you have shown for our brands. We will continue to support America's kids through a program called Grand Stand for SchoolsSM sweepstakes that will run annually in August and September. Last year, we contributed more than $1 million to schools through this program. In addition, we give around $70 million annually in funding and food to support programs aimed at building healthy communities and tackling hunger and obesity amongst America's most vulnerable children. We hope you will continue to participate this year. If you have any questions please call 1-800-424-5331 or visit www.LabelsForEducation.com. Sincerely, Campbell Soup Company

Please join us for an afternoon of reflection and understanding. For questions, please call Celia Knoll at 320-327-2356. Light refreshments will be served.

VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS URGED TO COME FORWARD: Anyone who has suffered sexual abuse by a priest or another person involved in Church ministry is encouraged to immediately report such abuse to local law enforcement, regardless of when it occurred, if it has not yet been reported. A listing of all county law enforcement and child protection agencies within the 15 counties of the Diocese of New Ulm is posted on the diocesan Web site at www.dnu.org. Victims and survivors of abuse by clergy are also encouraged to contact the diocesan victim assistance coordinator or the bishop’s delegate in matters pertaining to sexual misconduct at 1421 6th Street North, New Ulm, MN 56073, or by phone at 507-233-5313, for counseling or other assistance in healing. In addition, victims and survivors are reminded that the open window on the civil statute of limitations on historical claims of sexual abuse of a minor ends on May 25, 2016. A person wishing to file a claim should contact an attorney.

JUNIOR HIGH DIOCESAN YOUTH RALLY will be held on Sunday, April 24 at Dassel Cokato High School from 1:00-6:30 p.m. It is open to students in grades 6-8. Cost for the day is $20 if you sign up by April 14, after that date the cost is $25. If interested, please contact Katie Jones at 320-485-5619 or email at [email protected] for a permission slip.

THE CATHOLIC HOME MISSION will take place next week. One way that this appeal works to support home mission dioceses in the United States is by supporting seminarian formation in poor dioceses. The blessing of seminarians places a financial burden on these dioceses, because educating each seminarian costs $35 - $40K per year. Your support is needed for these young men so that they might go back and serve their parishes. Please strengthen the Church at home by making a generous gift to next week’s appeal.
