Dear Parishioners,

The Taj Mahal has been described as a “love song in marble.” Completed in 1645, the magnificent marble mausoleum was built by Shah Jahan, India’s Mogul emperor, in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Ma-hal. Her maiden name was Princess Arjumand. Shah Jahan loved her deeply, calling her his “Taj Mahal,” meaning “The Pearl of the Palace.” Princess Mumtaz Mahal died giving birth to their fourteenth child and the emperor was inconsolable. So, he summoned a great architect from Persia to build the Taj Mahal, telling him that it must be “the one perfect memorial in the world.” Seventeen years were needed to build this enchanting edifice of gleaming white marble embroidered with flashing jewels. It is an enduring monument to love that still inspires tourists, artists and writers from all over the world. This beautiful love story gives us some idea of how much God must have loved Mary, the mother of Jesus. The Feast of her Assumption into Heaven (celebrated August 15th) is proof of this. By raising her from the dead and taking her into Heaven – body and soul – God demonstrated His undying love for Mary. Like Shah Jahan, God could not bear the death of Mary, conceived without original sin. “Hail Mary, full of grace the Lord is with you” (Lk 1:25). However, God could do what no Indian emperor could – raise Mary from the dead and restore her to life even more beautiful than before. Moreover, God did-n’t have to build a Taj Mahal to memorialize Mary. Her glorified body is itself a magnificent temple of the Holy Spirit. May all generations call her “blessed”(Lk1:48). Yours in Christ,

Rev. Anthony Giamello

Registration for Religious Education is taking place now grade PreK to 10th grade. Also sacrament classes for: First Reconciliation, First communion (second grade) and Confirmation (10th grade) and RCIA. Register at: St. Ber-nadette’s on Tuesdays from 9-3 and St. John’s Wednesdays 9-3. Register and pay

before August 26 for a $10.00 discount to the fee. You may also call or email, see the front of bulletin for that information. Any Adults wishing to help in our programs please sign up also. We need teachers, assistants, office helpers, door monitors, artists, crafters, directors etc. We have a big need for PreK-K and First grade teachers and helpers. In a book “Pep Talk for Catholic Parents” Connie Clark writes: “A few years ago, I found myself sitting on the edge of my bed one morning, praying for some need or another. It felt natural and, over time, became a cherished habit. And that’s the beauty of it. My mom never told me to pray. I’m not sure she consciously realized she was setting an example. She just prayed. So take heart. Your kids see you doing amazing, heroic things every day. They see you working hard at your job. They see you praying and going to Mass. They see you doing small things for them—making their lunch, or kissing them on the forehead. All the things you value, you’re teaching your kids, maybe without even knowing it. You may not realize it right now, but because you are chosen by God, you are an incredible gift to your chil-dren. Believe it.” TO DO Think of one habit you’d like your child to adopt. If you’re not already doing it, start today.

TO PRAY Lord God, it’s not easy being a good example. Help me with your strength and wisdom. CONNIE CLARK is the editor of Living Faith Kids and the author of several books, including Living the Beatitudes (Twenty-Third Publications). She is a parent of two teenagers.
