Saint John the Evangelist Eagle Volume 10 Number 2 June, 2018 From the Pastor's Desk: Dear Parishioners, Greetings of peace and love to you all. Last weekend we celebrated Pentecost Sunday which is always considered the birthday of the Church and concludes the Easter Season. What a wonderful Easter Season it had been for us. We had a very well attended and uplifting Parish Mission which was delivered by Fr. Jim Sichko (a Papal missionary) of Lexington, Kentucky diocese; the vibes are still out there. Thank you all for coming to the mission and I pray that the fruits of the mission will last on all of us. During this past Easter Season so many of the parishioners stepped up to get more involved in the ministries of the church and I want to thank especially the new lectors (Liz Gruis, Diana Zecha, Eric Shoendaler, Calie Doze and Kathy Hoffman) and the new Eucharistic ministers (Pat Haberman, Marcia Williams, Brian and Cindy Wilborn) for your generosity in accepting to join the serve. And to all who serve in various ministries in the parish here at St. John’s, thanks for what you do. With the end of the school year we have also come to the end of the catechetical year. It was also very productive with 9 of our youths receiving the sacrament of Confirmation and 16 children receiving the First Holy Communion. How sweet they looked that day and what a joy it was for all of us. To all of these persons who received the various sacraments, I wish to extend our congratulations once again. To all the parents, volunteers, sponsors, catechists and DRE please accept the gratitude of this community for all your time and dedication. However, on a rather somber note, we announce the retirement of Pam Willis who has served as our DRE for the past 20 years. I know Pam deserves all the rest that retirement can afford, but we will miss her a lot. Pam, on behalf of this parish family, let me say THANK YOU for the dedicated service you gave us. May the Lord reward you abundantly. We are also pleased to welcome on board our new DRE in the person of Rose Debes. We are thankful to God that he made Rose available to us at this time to take up the responsibility of helping in our parish faith formation program. We want to thank Rose and her young family for making this sacrifice and we pray that Rose will find fulfillment in this new task. Yes here comes the summer!! We have all worked very hard and deserve a summer of rest. I wish you all a very refreshing summer time. But please remember that we cannot take a vacation from Christian life; even as you travel around do not forget your weekend obligation to be at Mass. Be assured of my prayers for you and yours. Yours Sincerely, Rev. Anselm Kentus Eke, MSP Your Pastor
