RCIA 2018—2019 If you know of someone who has not received First Communion or Confirmation, or maybe even some neighbors who talk about our parish and have never been baptized, why don’t you come to the rectory office during office hours and fill out the information for us. Religious Education Classes Registration: Registration for our parish 2018-2019 Re-ligious Education Faith Formation Classes is now taking place in the parish office. Regis-tration fee is $40.00 for the first child and $30.00 for each additional child of the same family. Please bring a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate and a copy of the Birth Certificate. 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Oscars. The Super Bowl. TV talent shows. Your son's Little League championship. We live in a culture set on

competition. The desire to "be the best" goes beyond hobbies and into politics, the corporate world, and parenting

comparisons at the park. This desire is as old as the human race, and it surely arose in Jesus' day. While Biblical

society was significantly less open and upwardly mobile than our own, power was attractive. From what we know,

many of Jesus' disciples had come from lowly backgrounds. Now they followed an increasingly popular rabbi who

seemed primed to do something big. Jesus does his best to dissuade their high hopes by prophesying his own de-

feat. "The Son of Man is to be handed over ? and they will kill him." Internalizing the message proves challenging

for the disciples, and their attention remains fixed on earthly glory. "They ? [discuss] among themselves on the

way who was the greatest." True to style, Jesus flips their pretensions on their heads. "'If anyone wishes to be first,

he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.'" We have heard these Biblical principles before. Do we believe

them? In our professional lives, do we do whatever we can to get ahead, or are we concerned with the entire team

succeeding? In the lives of our children, are we more concerned with victory or with building character? Jesus

doesn't condemn success, but he reframes it. "'Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me.'"

25o Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Creo que todos han tenido la experiencia de que los "tomen con las manos en la masa." Da vergüenza, se ponen

rojas las mejillas, la persona quiere desaparecer y con la vista baja, prefiere el silencio. ¿Has estado alguna vez en

esta situación? Bueno, en el Evangelio de hoy, les pasó a los discípulos algo parecido, silencio total ante la cara de

Jesús, cuando él pregunta. "¿De qué venían discutiendo en el camino? Ellos se quedaron callados, pues habían dis-

cutido entre sí sobre quién era el más importante de todos". (Marcos 9:33-34). Dos veces en este pasaje del Evan-

gelio los discípulos se quedaron callados. Primero, tenían miedo a preguntar, sobre la enseñanza, acerca de su

pasión, muerte y resurrección. Segundo, tenían miedo de decir lo que discutían en el camino. El primer silencio

indicaba resistencia para aceptar lo que escuchaban decir a Jesús sobre su Pasión. El segundo silencio indicaba la

dificultad de comprender más allá las enseñanzas del Maestro. Los discípulos, y también nosotros, tenemos toda la

vida para comprender lo que implica el seguimiento y entendimiento de las palabras de Jesús. "Si alguno quiere

ser el primero, que se haga el ultimo y el servidor de todos". (Marcos 9 35). El reto para la sociedad de hoy es

aprender a acoger, a ser hospitalarios con los más débiles, es decir, con los inmigrantes, y con los que sufren. Exis-

ten dos mundos diferentes. El de arriba, poder y reconocimiento. El de abajo, servicio y acogida. ¿Cómo puedo ser

puente entre ellos para unir fuerzas y trabajar juntos? ¡Ese es el reto del Evangelio de este Domingo!

Sharing the Gospel

God smiles when you help others. Take water to the thirsty. Donate your old clothes

to the needy. Comfort those who are crying. Give one of your toys to a child with no

toys. Share your favorite blanket with a child who is cold. If you spend your life

helping others, God will take your hand and say, "Come, my child. Live with me in

heaven forever." Even though they were friends, sometimes the disciples fought

with each other. In today's Gospel reading, they were fighting over who was the

most important. All twelve of them wanted to be number one-the best disciple. Then

Jesus told them a secret. The best disciple is the one who helps other people.

Prayer

Jesus, fill my heart with love to help others. Amen.

Mission Appeal for Heart’s Home This year our Diocesan Society for the Propagation of the Faith has invited the Catholic Mission-ary Association of Heart’s Home to come to our parish to conduct a Mission Appeal on the week-end of September 29-30, 2018. The visit of Fr. Alexander Merard this weekend, on behalf of Heart’s Home, to our parish is in cooperation with our participation in the Annual Mission Coop-erative Program for the Diocese of Brooklyn. Fr. Alexander Merard will speak at our parish Masses this weekend about the missionary activities of Heart’s Home. This weekend will be an opportunity for all of us to learn more about missionary activities and to support them with our prayers and donations.You are invited to give from your heart to help spread the Gospel Message throughout the world and help to alleviate the needs of the poor. Recurso de Misión para La Asociación Misionera De Puntos Corazón Este año nuestra Sociedad Diocesano para la Propagación de la Fe ha invitado a La Asociación Misionera De Puntos Corazóna para venir a nuestra parroquia para lle-var a cabo un Recurso de Misión en la semana de Septiembre 29-30 de 2018. La visita del Padre Alexandre Merard este fin de semana, en nombre de La Asocia-ción Misionera De Puntos, a nuestra parroquia es en cooperación con nuestra par-ticipación en el Programa Cooperativo Misióón Anual de la Diócesis de Brooklyn.
