6th Sunday of Easter "Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." Can we hear Jesus saying these words to us? It's often easier for us to imag-ine the apostles hearing this consoling command and follow-ing it, than to think of it really applying to us. After all, Jesus was standing right there with them. Can he really expect US, two thousand years later, not to be troubled by the cares of life? But the fact is that the gift Jesus was giving to his disci-ples, he has also given to us: "The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name." Jesus told them that peace would be theirs, and it can also be ours. Peace is, in fact, one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, along with love, joy, pa-tience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithful-ness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. These fruits don't come from us. They aren't just for people with certain cheery personalities. These fruits come from God straight into our souls through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Through our baptism and confirmation, Jesus gives us the gift of his Spirit. And then his peace, and so many other gifts can truly become ours if we open our hearts to them. This is a reality that we can contemplate whenever worry or anxiety strike. Whatever may be disturbing our inner peace--whether it be a family feud, some kind of physical suffering, or a diffi-cult decision to make at work or school--we can take comfort in knowing that we can find peace even in the midst of the problem. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you," Jesus says. But he continues, "Not as the world gives do I give it to you." In other words, God doesn't promise to take away the struggle in an instant. But he does promise to give us his peace even in the midst of life's trials and tribulations.

¿Has experimentado está paz? Sharing the Gospel Jesus wants you to love him so much that you will always do what he asks. Jesus knows that if you

put God first, you will have peace. Instead of wanting more toys, you will be happy to share them.

Instead of wanting to get your own way, you will enjoy taking turns. You will feel good helping

other people. Jesus said when you love me, you will obey me. Then I will come to live in you. My

Father will come to live in you, too. Look in the mirror, the twinkle in your eye and the smile on

your lips shows that God is within you right now. The commandments are easier to obey when God

is with you. Show God you love him by cleaning up your room.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, while You are with me I will do kind things for others.

Something to Draw

Draw yourself and your sister sweeping a room with a broom for your mother.

Mission for the Week

Pick up three pieces of trash in your house today.

Gracias, Padre Kenneth J. Grande

2016 Annual Catholic Appeal - Share The Joy Of The Gospel The 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal teaches the importance to renew our faith through acts of charity and emphasizes the responsibility parishioners have in supporting their parish, as well as the diocesan min-istries, programs and services that are carried out in our communities through the Annual Catholic Ap-peal. A Catholic Steward reaches out in many ways. Through the Annual Catholic Appeal we support many programs, ministries and services and most importantly, people. This year’s theme captures the call to be Church through our Holy Father Pope Francis’ Encyclical Evangelii Gaudium - The Joy of the Gospel to go forth as a community of missionary disciples who take the first step, who are involved and supportive, who bear fruit and rejoice. We are encouraged in a special way in this 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal to share the Joy of the Gospel: by teaching and modeling Christian values; by practicing works of mercy, charity, and consolation; by giving to the ACA whose ministries and services share our Catholic faith throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Through your ACA donations we share the Joy of the Gospel with our children, our youth and young adults, our sick and elderly. We share the Joy of the Gospel when we help young couples prepare for marriage, prepare for the baptism of their child, prepare their children for First Holy Communion. We share the Joy of the Gospel when we support our seminarians through prayer and financial gifts. When you give a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal your dollars are distributed among the services and ministries that are carried out in our diocese of Brooklyn and Queens and in our parish. Please prayerfully consider the sacrificial pledge you would like to make to our Diocesan Annual Catholic Appeal for this year 2016. Whatever the amount of your gift, it will be accepted with gratitude and deeply appreciated. Thank you, Fr. Kenneth J. Grande
