Alfred has adapted well to his new surroundings, but is very limited in his ability to speak and comprehend. He is most content while listening to the Rosary and the daily Mass on TV. The holidays are upon us! It is so easy to raise money for the school, as well as save money off your sus-taining fee for next school year, just by purchasing SCRIP cards. Buying SCRIP cards now is a great way to begin to budget for the holidays and the expense that can come with it. Don’t have a family in school? Just pick a family or donate to a ‘Family in Need’. Our SCRIP sales to date are $247,500 with a profit of $7,274. So far this year we have sold almost $35,000 less than this time last year, so if you have the need for gift cards, we have the inventory for you! Once again, thanks so much for all your support of the program!

Age 70 ½ or older with an RMD from an IRA? Did you know that federal law allows tax free charitable distributions from your IRA? Charitable taxpayers who are age 70½ or older can direct “qualified charitable distributions” from their fund administrator directly to the charities of their choice, including one’s parish, school, or the parish capital campaign. This distribution may result in tax savings even if you are unable to itemize your deductions. For more information about how you can benefit from an IRA charitable distribu-tion, please contact your IRA administrator or tax preparer.

Reminder: If you have misplaced your pledge card for the capital campaign, there are cards and envelopes available in the vestibule of church for your use. Also, information and forms for the capital campaign are available on the parish website, under “renovation.” Progress reports regarding the renovation project will be updated regularly on the website.

The annual Missouri Catholic Conference Annual Assembly is being held at Helias Catholic High School on October 6, 2018. The keynote speaker will be Bishop Perry, who is in charge of the canonization effort for Fr. Tolton. He spoke to the diocesan priests last spring and has a good message for us, especially in light of our honoring Fr. Tolton by dedicating our newest diocesan high school to him. Please consider attending this event, and encourage your school faculty, advisory councils, school and parish families to attend. The MCC is the lobbying arm of the bishops in Missouri and it is good for those of us who educate future Catholic citi-zens to be aware of what their bishops see as priorities in the current political landscape.

August 8, 2018 Church Renovation Town Hall Meeting: FAQ’s

1. Question: What is the current steeple made of and what will it be replaced with? Will the

pattern of the steeple stay the same? Answer: The current steeple is turn coated steel and will be removed for the new material to be replaced. The new steeple will be copper coated steel for durability. It will patina over time to a brownish tone. It is a “living color” and will continue to patina over time. 2. Question: There are time capsules in the smaller crosses. What are the plans for those? Answer: The contractor will be made aware of the time capsules so that they will be saved. There are no definitive plans on whether the time capsules will be opened at this point. 3. Question: What era are we seeking to restore the Church to? Answer: The plan is to restore to the original historic era of the church. Decisions regard ing the siding replacement on the sides were intended to match the mid-century look of the beige stamped panel siding (picture available upon request and was passed around at meeting). 4. Question: Will the wiring in the entire Church be redone? Answer: Originally only the attic and basement were to be rewired. We have asked the contractors to submit a bid for the entire Church to be rewired. This was not included in the budget but will be looked at going forward in the renovation. 5. Question: Will the structural integrity of the balcony and choir loft be looked at? Answer: Yes, we are having inspections done by a qualified inspector and will be evaluating it. 6. Question: What is the start date for Phase I? Answer: The work will begin in late September or early October with a completion date by year end. 7. Question: Will we start phase II without all the funding secured? Answer: If we do not fully meet the Phase II financial requirement, we will prioritize the list to necessities that fit within the budget. We have not exhausted all financial resources at this time and those decisions will not be made until that is completed. We have approximately 300 pledge cards yet to be received to help meet the goal. 8. Question: Are there grants or funds available for the project through the historic registry or other options? Answer: We are not pursuing any historical grants or funding. 9. Question: What will happen with the ceiling in the altar area? Answer: No decisions have been made on the interior renovation that will take place in Phase II. A committee will be established to make those decisions keeping with the goal of restoring the Church to the expansion era. 10. Question: Will Phase I work keep the bats out of the attic to prevent future damage? Answer: Yes. 11. Question: Will there be an option during Phase III for name recognition on the pews? Answer: We will discuss and evaluate this option. 12. Question: Are the roof dormers being removed? Answer: Yes, the 4 roof dormers will be removed as they no longer serve a purpose. We have made a request to the contractor that one be kept intact and donated to the historical society. 13. Question: What is happening to the Convent? Answer: The Convent will be sold at some point with the funds directed to the renovation. An appraisal will determine the value of the property. A “sealed bid” process will be utilized for the sale.
