PRAY THE ROSARY The Rosary will be prayed following Tuesday Morning Mass at Sacred Heart. The intention is for the men and women serving proudly around the world in our armed forces and for their families who carry a heavy load at home in their absence.

If you know of someone who would like a

visit from Monsignor to bring Holy Eucharist

and have their confessions heard, please

give the parish office a call and we will be

happy to make arrangements.

We continue to be blessed with wonderful Extraor-

dinary Ministers of Holy Communion who make

regular visits to the homebound and those in nursing

homes. Their ministry is a very special one, and your

works are very much appreciated.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: The apostles were afraid of

Jesus until he ate with them and they touched him. In your

family the ordinary acts of eating together, touching, em-

bracing not only confirm our love for each other, but also

celebrate God’s presence in your family. These ‘ordinary’

moments contain the ‘Extraordinary.” Cherish and nurture

those moments.

THURSDAY MORNING PRAYERS1

Join fellow Saint Kateri Parish Family Members in prayer each Thursday morning at 9 AM at Saint Bernard Church. All are welcome to join in this informal group prayer time. Quiet reflection and thanksgiving.

PARISH CRAFT GROUP

The Crafty Hearts are busy working on some beautiful Mother’s Day corsages that they will be offering for sale after Mass on Mother’s Day at Sacred Heart.

The corsages are sure to please any Mom...they will be sold for just $ 5.00 each. The proceeds from the sale will continue to assist missionary charities. If you would like to help out, the group meets each Wednesday following 9 AM

Mass in Kent.

SANCTUARY LAMP

This week, the Sanctuary Lamp at

Sacred Heart Church burns brightly for the

glory of God and for the restored good

health of our parishioner Bill Silk as re-

quested by his wife Joan.

Please keep Bill and Joan in your

thoughts and prayers.

If you would like to honor or remember a loved

one in any of our three member churches, please give Sandy a

call at the Parish Office.

A MASS OF REMEMBRANCE

FOR OUR CHILDREN

The Mass of Remembrance is a time for reflection on the lives of our children who have died from any cause. The causes are numerous but the resulting emotions of pain, longing, and sorrow are the same. Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and often overlooked

losses is of miscarriage. Too frequently it is seen as less than other deaths of children, but for those who have ex-perienced miscarriage, it is no less painful. Parents wish these children to be remembered and the Mass of Re-membrance provides this opportunity. You are invited to join us in praying for children who have died by miscar-riage, illness, or any cause, and for their families who con-tinue to mourn their loss. Join us on The Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue in West Hart-ford. If you have any questions, please contact the Pro– Life Ministry office.

Sister Suzanne Gross, F.S.E. Program Coordinator Pro-Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of Hartford 203-639-0833 or 203-213-5079 You may also email sis-ter at [email protected]

We pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Donald Carberry and for the consolation of his daughter, Donna DiMartino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Bernard Church on Saturday, June 9th.

ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HIM, O LORD, AND MAY PERPETUAL LIGHT

SHINE UPON HIM.

SHOES IN CHURCH

I showered and

shaved and I adjusted my tie. I

got there and sat in a pew just in

time. Bowing my head in prayer

as I closed my eyes. I saw the

shoe of the man next to me

touching my own. I sighed. With

plenty of room on either side I

thought, 'Why must our soles

touch? It bothered me tremendously, his shoe touching

mine, but it didn't seem to bother him much. A prayer began: 'Our Father'.............. I thought

this man with the shoes has no pride. They're dusty, worn,

and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!

Thank You for blessings, the prayer went on. The shoe man

said a quiet Amen. I tried to focus on the prayer but my

thoughts were on his shoes again. Aren't we supposed to

look our best. When walking through that door? Well, this

certainly isn't it, I thought, glancing toward the floor. Then the prayer was ended and the songs of praise

began. The shoe man was certainly loud, sounding proud

as he sang. His voice lifted the rafters and his hands were

raised high. The Lord could surely hear the shoe man's

voice from the sky. It was time for the offering and what I

threw in was steep. I watched as the shoe man reached

into his pockets so deep. I saw what was pulled out, what

the shoe man put in. Then I heard a soft clink. As when

silver hits tin. The sermon really bored me to tears, and

that's no lie. It was the same for the shoe man for there

were s i l e n t t ea r s f e l l f r om h i s eyes . At the end of the service as is the custom here, we must

greet new visitors, and show them all good cheer. But I felt

moved somehow and wanted to meet the shoe man. So

after the closing prayer I reached over and shook his hand.

He was old and his skin was dark and his hair was truly a

mess. But I thanked him for coming for being our guest.

He said, my name is Charlie, I'm glad to meet you, my

friend. There were tears in his eyes but he had a large,

wide grin. Let me explain, he said, wiping tears from his

eyes. 'I've been coming here for months and you're the first

to say hi. I know that my appearance is not like all the rest,

but I really do try to always look my best; I always clean

and polish my shoes before my very long walk, but by the

time I get here they're dirty and dusty, like chalk. My heart

filled with pain and I swallowed to hide my tears, as he

continued to apologize for daring to sit so near.

He said; When I get here 'I know I must look a sight, but

I thought if I could touch you, then maybe our souls might

unite. I was silent for a moment knowing whatever was

said would pale in comparison. I spoke from my heart, not

my head.

Oh, you've touched me, I said and taught me, in part;

that the best of any man is what is found in his heart. The

rest, I thought, this shoe man will never know. Like just

how thankful I really am that his dirty old shoe touched my

soul.
