Catechetical Sunday 2020 Sunday, September 20, 2020

This theme is I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you. Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sun-day is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in hand-ing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededi-cate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

Cathechist Mini-Retreat/Planning Day

August 30, 2020 | 11:30 a.m.

Over the summer, we had communicated that we would like to have a catechist retreat day, and even sent some dates. All of that has been canceled. What we are having is a mini retreat/planning day on Sunday, August 30. The itinerary is below:

11:30-12:15 Welcome and the Road to Emmaus as a Model for Catechesis

12:15-12:45 Lunch 12:45- 1:15 Adoration in the Church 1:15- 2:30 Teaching in the time of pandemic/How to

use online materials and Zoom (divided K-5 and 6-8).

Faith formation update

The plan for Faith Formation in the Fall is to use a hybrid of in-person classroom instruction and at home virtual instruction. For in-person classroom instruction, students and catechists will come to SKD once a month for instruction. Not all the classes will meet on the same weekend. If the pandemic requires a shutdown of the SKD campus, students and catechist in-person instruction will be moved to Zoom meetings. We are still working out the details of that schedule. For the virtual at-home instruction, we will be utilizing materials that are grade appropriate for each student. We are also still working out those details. We encourage parents to engage with their students in the virtual lessons, and use them as an opportunity to grow deeper in the faith together.

At the end of the Fall semester, we will evaluate how things are going and the status of the pandemic to see if we can safely move into in-person instruction for the spring.

We are still in need of a few catechists for the 2020-2021 Faith Formation year. Please prayerful consider helping our children to grow in their Faith. If interested, please contact Scott Root at [email protected] or Mary Ann Schleihauf at [email protected] . All catechists will need to complete Diocesan Youth Protection Clearances.
