It was a week of celebration! Last Sunday at our 10 AM Mass we welcomed Father Robert Lacombe as our Celebrant and Homilist and began a week long celebration of Catholic schools. His inspir-ing words helped us to rejoice in the great gift that our school, Bishop Hendricken High School, and all Catholic schools are to our state and nation. Their legacy is long and their future bright as we work to-gether to shape the young minds of today to lead us with integrity, faith and keen intelligence into tomor-row. After Mass we opened our school doors to many families (a record number in fact) who took a close look at us and even got to meet some of our student ambassadors, and some of our distinguished alumni, who returned from their high school class-rooms to serve as guides to our many guests. Many thanks to all who made this such a great and inspir-ing day including Mr. Irving, our Principal, our faculty and staff and our PSO (Parent Student Organization) leaders who hosted a reception in the library as well as a chance to meet some of our present parents and to chat about what St. Kevin School is and does! A special word of gratitude to Mrs. Darlene Caruolo, who once again served as our Open House coordi-nator and made it a day of precision, information and welcome. Her weeks of hard work made the day a great success. The festivities went right down the street a bit to Bishop Hendricken High School where we began the week with a school wide Mass and highlighted the great gift that this premier Catholic boys school is. We are blessed to be partners with them and venture into the future confident in the mis-sion that we share, “to educate students in the Ro-man Catholic tradition providing academic excellence in a nurturing environment. Our curriculum and spir-itual support prepare students to be life-long learners and enlightened Christians who share their time, tal-ent, and treasure within the community” (St. Kevin School Mission Statement). I am pleased to report that some of our grades are full and now have wait-ing lists and some still have seats available as well. Give us a call, come and take a look or have your child or grandchild visit us for a “shadow day” and see what it means to be a student at St. Kevin School, or Bishop Hendricken High school, and to be part of the rich and deep tradition that we are proud of for the past 60 years of faith, moral character and academic excellence. Have a great week and God Bless. Father Bob Marciano

POPE FRANCIS - ANGELUS Sunday, January 26, 2020

Today's Gospel (cf. Matthew 4:12-23) presents the be-ginning of Jesus' public mission. This happened in Gali-lee, a peripheral area with respect to Jerusalem, which was viewed with suspicion by its mixing with the pa-gans. Nothing good or new was expected from this re-gion; instead, it was there that Jesus, who had grown up in Nazareth of Galilee, began his preaching.

He proclaims the core of his teaching summarized in the call: "Convert, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near." (v. 17) This proclamation is like a powerful ray of light that crosses the darkness and penetrates the fog, and evokes the prophecy of Isaiah that is read on Christmas night: "The people who walked in the dark saw an intense light. A light shone on those who lived in the land of shadows." (IS 9:1) With the coming of Jesus, light of the world, God the Father showed man-kind his closeness and friendship. He gave Him to us freely, beyond our merits. The closeness and friendship of God are not "merited" by us; they are a free gift from God. We must take care of this gift.

The call to conversion, which Jesus directs to all men of good will, is fully understood in the light of the event of the manifestation of the Son of God, on which we medi-tated last Sunday. Many times it is impossible to change life, to abandon the path of selfishness and evil, to abandon the path of sin, because the commitment to conversion focuses only on oneself and one's own strength, and not on Christ and his Spirit. But our faith-fulness to the Lord cannot be reduced to personal ef-fort. No! Believing this would be a sin of pride. Our faithfulness to the Lord cannot be reduced to personal effort, but must be expressed in a confident opening of heart and mind to receive the Good News of Jesus. It is this -- the Word of Jesus, the Good News of Jesus, the Gospel -- that changes the world and hearts! We are called, therefore, to trust in the word of Christ, to open ourselves to the mercy of the Father and to let our-selves be transformed by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

This is where the true path of conversion begins. Just as it happened with the first disciples: the encounter with the divine Master, with his gaze, with his word, gave them the impulse to follow him, to change his life concretely by serving the Kingdom of God.

The surprising and decisive encounter with Jesus es-tablished the path of the disciples, transforming them into announcers and witnesses of God's love for his people. Following the example of these first announc-ers and messengers of the Word of God, each of us can move in the footsteps of the Savior, to offer hope to those who thirst for it.

May the Virgin Mary, whom we address in this Angelus prayer, sustain these intentions and confirm them with her maternal intercession.

Prayer Group Prayer Group every Monday evening at 5pm in the Father

O'Hara Hall. Rosary & Chaplet of Divine Mercy for approximately for 1 hour. Please join us. All are wel-come.
