ANNUAL REPORT 2013 - 2014

A Catholic, co-educational college preparatory high school

Dear Friends of Saint Lawrence Academy,

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014, Saint Lawrence Academy was able to meet its financial goals for gifts and fundraising. This is wonderful news because the goals were ambitious. They had to be. We were challenged to demonstrate substantive support in order to access matching funds from the Diocese of San Jose and from one of our community’s own families. Your partnership last year has set us on a firm, new path.

Sustaining the School and Its Educational QualityThe perennial challenge for a small school is to uphold educational quality while keeping the books balanced. Furthermore, we all share the responsibility as a community to develop and grow Saint Lawrence Academy to a greater level of sustainable operation. Last year, we instituted a reorganization in order to better align the administrative structure with the work to be accomplished. Our strategic objectives include increased enrollment, expanded professional training, improved technological resources, and enhanced facilities, among others.

The Difference You Are MakingIn all of our efforts, we remain committed to maintaining Saint Lawrence Academy as a community built on Gospel values, centered in our Catholic faith, where students of diverse backgrounds can unlock their spiritual, intellectual, creative, and physical potential as they extend their personal learning experience beyond the classroom. We are all partners in the responsibility to ensure a strong future for the school, maintain an extraordinary educational experience for our students, and adhere to our deeply held values. We are grateful to all friends of the Saint Lawrence Academy community who are demonstrating their dedication to fulfilling these essential goals.

Sincerely yours,

Philip DolanPresident

Administration

Saint Lawrence Academy is a community built on Gospel values, centered in our Catholic faith, where students of diverse backgrounds can unlock their spiritual, intellectual, creative, and physical potential as they extend their personal learning experience beyond the classroom. We invest in the gifts of each individual by fostering interpersonal relationships, delivering a multi-level curriculum, and inviting students to be fully engaged in their high school experience. Saint Lawrence Academy is a faith-filled community in which students discover their voice to lead confidently, learn continuously, and walk humbly with their God.

Our Mission

Saint Lawrence Academy creates a compassionate and diverse environment where students develop their voice to prepare for success in an ever-changing world and be of service to the local and global community. Our students are supported by a community of learners who provide academically challenging courses, promote in-depth understanding of Gospel values and celebrate each person’s unique character, strengths and talents.

The success of the 2013-2014 Annual Advancement Campaign was due in part to the dramatic 23% increase in donations from current families donating to the Annual Advancement Campaign. These families have made a praiseworthy commitment to support their children’s school above and beyond paying tuition.

Saint Lawrence Academy is honored to be the school of choice for the first-ever 31 Men Scholarship recipient. 31 Men is a group passionate about the value of Catholic education and committed to making it available to boys from very low-income families. Each group of 31 Men consists of 30 men committing $50 per month for four years to cover costs for one boy from Sacred Heart Nativity School (SHNS) middle school to attend Saint Lawrence Academy. This will cover tuition, uniforms, books, and fees for all four years. That one boy from SHNS will, through his experience at Saint Lawrence Academy, become the 31st man.

Individual & Business Donors

Even though this was the inaugural year for this community-building event, the Spring Gala raised nearly $8,000 for financial assistance. With 28% of students receiving financial assistance in some capacity, the proceeds from the Spring Gala enable Saint Lawrence Academy to extend that assistance to even more students seeking a Catholic education. Additionally, “The Wishing Tree” generated more than $2,000 as guests could purchase wish list items for Saint Lawrence Academy. Over 35 wishes were granted ranging from new music stands for the Performing Arts Department to chemistry water baths and lab stools for the Science Department.

This year’s tournament benefited the athletic departments at both Saint Lawrence Academy and Saint Lawrence Elementary and Middle School, and raised nearly $10,000.

Capital Gifts Capital gifts are gifts specifically restricted for capital needs that include endowment funds as well as funds for construction or renovations of permanent facilities.

Memorial Gifts A gift in memory of someone you love or admire can be a particularly meaningful way to contribute to Saint Lawrence Academy. A memorial gift may be made to the Annual Fund or as a capital gift, and may be restricted if you choose.
