ST. MARK PARISH BURLINGTON, VT

Beloved Parishioners and Friends of St. Mark,

This is a follow up to my earlier letter that detailed the plan of the parish during this time of so-

cial isolation. I will be posting daily updates and messages to inspire hope and deepen our faith as

we move through this time together. Remember we are not alone! God is with us, cares for us and

will be with us always, even until the end of time. Our faith reminds us of this (Matthew 28:20)

and also implores us to act on this belief by inspiring hope to those in our homes and in our

neighborhoods.

As your pastor, please know that I am praying for you daily, and will be offering the following hours of presence

in the church, where I will offer my time and prayer for all of you. Many people wonder what a priest does all

day, and now more than ever people are probably wondering if we are doing anything at all. Speaking and meet-

ing with someone just yesterday, he was concerned that I wouldn't be available to meet. He thought that I would

have gone on "vacation" to be with my family. Well, I am with my family - YOU! All of you are my family and I

will remain with you especially at this time to offer my support, prayers and fatherly presence.

Now to answer the question about what a priest does all day outside of the celebration of public Mass and admini-

stration of the Sacraments (which is a very good question!), here is my daily schedule:

• Pray the Breviary* which includes Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Daytime Prayer, Evening Prayer and

Night Prayer

• Pray the Mass*

• Make a Holy Hour

• Pray a daily Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet

• Spiritual Reading

*I will be explaining more about the Breviary (what it is and why we do it) and the Mass in future daily posts.

This daily schedule is essential for me and all priests to continue to deepen our faith and commitment to Jesus. As

all of our schedules are thrown out of whack because of this coronavirus pandemic, I am keeping the following

schedule of hours in the church when I will keep my priestly prayer commitments:

• Monday and Thursday: 7-9AM, 1-3PM and 6-8:30PM

• Tuesday: 7-9AM

• Wednesday 6-8:30PM

• Friday: 7-9AM and 6-8:30PM

• Saturday and Sunday: 7-9AM, 1-3PM

The above times are when I will be present in prayer, following my prayer commitments stated above. Please join

in prayer from where you are. Remember Jesus remains with us. He is truly present to us in the Blessed Sacra-

ment. He loves us, intercedes for us to the Father, and sends us His peace and consoling mercy. Let us unite our-

selves to Him in prayer.

Peace be with you,

Fr. Dallas

LIGHTHOUSE KIOSK HIGHLIGHT

7 Secrets of Confession - Book by Vinny Flynn, author of

the best-seller, 7 Secrets of the Eucharist (100,000 cop-

ies sold), presents a similar approach to the Sacrament

of Confession in this new book that reveals 7 key

"secrets" or hidden truths about the great spiritual

beauty, power and depth of Confession.

The understanding that many Catholics have of the

Sacrament of Confession is so limited and narrow in its

focus that it keeps them from discovering the real

beauty and value of this Sacrament... beauty and value

that even a young child can understand if it's presented

properly.

For too many Catholics, Confession is just a means to

an end: cleaning us up from sin so we can receive

Communion. But, as Pope Francis tells us, Confession

is much more than "going to the dry cleaner." It's "an

encounter with Jesus, who waits for us as we are."

In his years of speaking all over North America, Flynn

saw that many Catholics have this limited appreciation

of Confession, and the urgent need for clear teaching

about this great Sacrament. If you have not yet experi-

enced Confession as a wonderful, personal encounter

with Christ; if you do not yet look forward to going to

Confession with the same eagerness and expectation

with which you receive Holy Communion, this book is

for you. It will be a whole new way of going to Confes-

sion, inviting you to begin an exciting personal journey

to healing and holiness. It may change your life!

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that You

are truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace

You as if You were already there and unite myself

wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated

from You. Amen.
