"Living This Week's Reading" The rich young man in today's gospel is like many of us. He knows about his faith and its teachings but finds it difficult to let go of those things that stand in the way of being fully committed to following Jesus. What are those things in your life that hin-der you from being a disciple of Jesus? Hear the words of Jesus, "all things are pos-sible with God" and trust that God will help you to live as a committed disciple now!

Year B
Collaborative Pastoral Council The next meeting of the St. Martha and St. Mary Collabora-tive Pastoral Council will be held on Monday, October 15
at 7pm at St. Martha parish hall. All are welcome.
This week's second collection will support the Holy Fa-ther's "Peter's Pence" collection that provides funds for emergency and disaster relief. This collection will also pro-vide support to the Catholic University of America that edu-cates priests and lay people for ministry and for the Inner City Parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston. Your generosity will assist the Holy Father as well as the various missionary efforts at home and abroad. For information on these collec-tions, go to: 1.) www.usccb.org/ppc; 2.) www.propfaithboston.org; 3.) www.cua.edu; 4.) www.BostonCatholic.org.
2018 Grand Annual Collection A special Grand Annual letter has been mailed to all regis-tered parishioners. Please return the enclosed card indicating your gift. You may mail it back to the parish office or place it in the collection at Mass next weekend, October 20 & 21. Additional cards are available at the entrance to the church.
Will you consider "taking a step?" Each year we hold our Grand Annual collection to support our life together. Unlike the Catholic Appeal or Cardinal's collection, this campaign is about supporting our local par-ish. While the Parish Offertory supports much of our regular operating budget, the Grand Annual helps with important maintenance and special activities that keep our parish vi-brant and focused on our mission and ministries. This year we are inviting you to "take a step" in your support by increasing your gift to our Grand Annual collec-tion. If we each take a small step we can accomplish much. A gift of any amount will make a difference and is greatly appreciated. We truly appreciate any assistance you can give, under-standing that some households face financial difficulties. We are counting on the many, who are able, to generously sup-port our 2018 Grand Annual collection.
Prayers Answered in Song
O n behalf of the search team made up of members from both Parishes, it gives me great joy to an-
nounce that our prayers have been answered, and we have hired a new member of our Collaborative Pastoral Team: Ms. Jillian Carelli will be the new Director of Music
Ministries for St. Mary Parish! We believe she is just
the right person God has provided to build on the leader-ship A.J. Hoy provided, serving primarily at St. Mary but also collaborating with her counterparts at St. Martha.
Jillian was born in New Jersey, moved to Cape Cod where she graduated from Bourne High School, and is now a third year student at the Boston Conservatory. Her principal gifts are vocals and piano, but she also plays the organ, flute and harp. Jillian was drawn to music ministry as a young teenager, and faith became very important to her life and ministry. She has served at several parishes throughout our area, including significant experience leading children’s choirs. Jillian has directed music at youth Masses, drawing in teens with the ministry that attracted her at that age. She looks forward to continuing the children’s choir that Mary Hoy began and building on our past successes in adult choir and Sunday evening youth-focused Mass. Jillian will be fully on-board with us by early November, but she looks forward to participat-ing in various Masses and meetings between now and then!
This announcement marks the culmination of a two month process of announcements, securing interim minis-ters, interviews and auditions. We are blessed to have had the leadership of Sally Winslow as search coordinator and the guidance of both Music Directors from St.
Martha, along with the support and active involvement of council members, adult choir members, and the
whole of St. Mary’s Music Ministry! We particularly need to thank all those who continued the music minis-tries at St. Mary in the interim: Brittany Lorgeree, Sha-
ron Summers, Tom Abbott, Jeff Johnson, Michael
Salinger, Adam Trudel, funeral fill-ins, and especially
Anne DiSanto who rushed from the 8am at St. Martha each week to minister at the St. Mary 9:30 and Noon Masses most weeks. We could not have had the beautiful liturgies at St. Mary without your ministry and generosity of time and talent!
As we move into the last phase of this transition, we look forward to welcoming Jillian in the coming weeks, helping her to get to know the Parish and our collabora-tive, and bringing together the great music ministry al-ready here with the gifts and leadership that Jillian has to offer.
November is the Month of Remembrance The Parishes of St. Martha and St. Mary would like to in-vite you to a Mass of Remembrance to honor those who have died. There will be a solemn reading of the names of those whose funeral rites were celebrated in each parish, but these special Masses are for all those who have lost a loved one at any time and would like to participate in this consoling liturgy. ♦ St. Martha Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated
at 7:00pm on November 2, 2018. ♦ St. Mary Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at
9:00am on November 2, 2018.
