St. Martha office hours are now: Monday - Wednesday - Friday
From 9:00 - 11:00am
St. Mary office hours are now:Monday - Friday
From 9:30am - 12:00pm ___________________
Daily Mass is now celebrated inside St. Mary Church on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays & Thursdays at 9:00 am Mass will continue to be celebrated online on Mon-days and Fridays at 9:00am from St. Mary's Chapel. These Masses can all be viewed on both the St. Mar-tha Facebook page and the St. Mary Facebook page as well as YouTube. Registration is not necessary to at-tend daily Mass.
Sr. Carmel, RJM, Memorial Mass Aug. 2 We have been praying for Sister Carmel, long-
time resident of the Jesus and Mary Convent in Plain-ville, lector and former choir director at St. Martha Parish. Sister Carmel died suddenly on June 6. She had left instructions for a small Funeral in their con-vent chapel, but we also want to honor her and mourn the loss of this sister who had been actively involved in our parishes. We will have a Memorial Mass open to the public on Sunday, August 2, 10am at St. Martha church. Please remember to signup to attend this Mass as we expect it will be well attended.
Outdoor Confirmations at St. MarthaOne exciting innovation that has come out of this pan-demic is that we are having half of our collaborative’s Confirmation class this year receive this powerful sac-rament with Bishop Robert Reed at St. Martha church in an outdoor ceremony this Friday evening (rain date is Saturday). Even two ceremonies at each of our par-ishes would not have provided enough room for candi-dates, sponsors and guests with safe distancing in-doors. Therefore, we are taking advantage of the large field at St. Martha to accommodate all the St. Martha confirmandi, as well as those from St. Mary who are open to this opportunity. Throughout our archdiocese, all Confirmations rescheduled from this spring are be-ing celebrated as a Confirmation Liturgy apart from Mass, so they will include a Liturgy of the Word, the Rite of Confirmation, and the concluding rites. Confirmation will be the third Sacrament of Initiation and a source of strength for these, our youth, as they continue to grow into maturity in their faith and in the world. The Holy Spirit, who in Baptism came to dwell in them, now pours out the sevenfold Gifts of the Spirit as a kind of “spiritual arsenal” to help them to live their faith in the world. The following explanation of these gifts (adapted from catholic.com) is based on the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas: Wisdom is both the knowledge of and judgment about
divine things” and the ability to judge and direct hu-man affairs according to divine truth.
Understanding is penetrating insight into the very heart of things, especially those higher truths that are necessary for our eternal salvation—in effect, the ability to see” God.
Counsel allows a person to be directed by God in mat-ters necessary for his salvation.
Fortitude denotes a firmness of mind in doing good and in avoiding evil, particularly when it is difficult or dangerous to do so, and the confidence to overcome all obstacles.
Knowledge is the ability to judge correctly about mat-ters of faith and right action, so as to never wander from the straight path of justice.
Piety is, principally, revering God with filial affection, paying worship and duty to God, paying due duty to all men on account of their relationship to God, and honoring the saints and not contradicting Scripture.
Fr. Joe's column continues on the last page
Video & Computer Helpers Needed Adults and teens, if you have used a camcorder or a computer, you can help us continue to show Masses from our churches to parishioners at home. Many people, (especially those who are more vulnerable in this pandemic) have been very grateful to see Mass from St. Martha & St. Mary Parishes online, and we are working on ways to show our Mass recordings on local cable stations too! For Masses to continue to be seen online, we need your help to run the video camera and/or the laptop computer that streams Mass live to the internet. One adult or teen can do both, but if you are more com-fortable with just the camera or the computer, you can work in pairs. Please contact either Fr. Lambert or Fr. Joe to learn more about these simple tasks that can make a world of difference to those who can't attend Mass in person.

Fr. Joe's column continues…
Fear of the Lord is, in this context, filial” or chaste fear whereby we revere God and avoid sep-arating ourselves from him (as opposed to servile” fear, whereby we fear punishment).
So let’s pray for all those who will be Con-firmed this week (or on Sep. 3 at St. Mary), that they will be truly open to these gifts of the Holy Spirit. May God’s grace fan the flames of His love for them and theirs for Him, that these gifts may be-come practical and spiritual strengths in their lives!
~ Fr. Joe
P.S. - Adults who have not been Confirmed can also prepare to receive this sacrament in the future. Any adult Catholics who are interested in completing their sacraments of initiation can contact any of our priests or deacons, or call your parish office.
