My Friends, In my lifetime, I've been very blessed to have had the opportunity to travel and visit many other countries and con-tinents. I've done missionary work in Haiti and El Salvador, been to Europe twice, been to Venezuela and Colum-bia, Panama, most of Central America, and Mexico many times. I know a lot of U.S. citizens never get this opportunity. Besides being refresh-ing and renewing, travel definitely opens ones eyes and gives a different outlook upon cultures, people and a new worldview. I hope in your lifetime you have this chance. It brings people and countries together and helps us understand one another better. With that "mini-homily" as a preface, I want to share with you that I will be away on vacation for two weeks and three weekends of October (Oct.6 to Oct.21). Back to Europe, flying into Paris and then taking the Eurail wherev-er it leads and wherever sounds inter-esting each day. In my absence, our Parish Staff (Maureen, Paola, Francisco and Susan) will continue to very competently over-see the day to day operations. Mis Amigos, En mi vida, he tenido la gran suerte de haber tenido la oportunidad de viajar y visitar muchos otros países y continen-tes. He hecho trabajo misionero en Haití y El Salvador, estado en Europa dos ve-ces, estuve en Venezuela y Colombia, Panamá, la mayor parte de América Cen-tral y México muchas veces. Sé que muchos ciudadanos de Esta-dos Unidos nunca tienen esta oportuni-dad. Además de ser refrescante y reno-vador, el viaje definitivamente abre los ojos y ofrece una perspectiva diferente sobre las culturas, las personas y una nueva visión del mundo. Espero que en tu vida tengas esta oportunidad. Reúne a personas y países y nos ayuda a en-tendernos mejor. Con esa "mini-homilía" como prefacio, quiero compartir con ustedes que estaré de vacaciones durante dos semanas y tres fines de semana de octubre (del 6 al 21 de octubre). De regreso a Europa, vuelo a París y luego tomaré el Eurail donde quiera que vaya y donde quiera que suene interesante cada día. One of the rich Hispanic traditions celebrated each year before Christmas is La Posada, the ritual re-enactment of Mary and Joseph's search for lodging in Bethlehem. It includes prayer, proces-sion, music, dancing, food, pinatas, etc.
This year, rather than have multiple Posadas by various groups, we will have ONE large, PARISH celebration for all on SATURDAY, DEC.22ND @ 6 PM @ HOLY CROSS GYM (125 N. ORIENTAL ST), just 5 minutes east of St. Mary.

There is a special need for new leadership for our St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Mary. The current Conference President has served more than the eligible two three-year terms and, if no one else takes over, the conference will be closed. This means the poor and needy in our neighborhood will be underserved. Conferences meet regularly at the places, days and times deter-
mined by themselves and is run by the President. The St. Mary Conference President also attends East District meetings six times per year at another nearby church. Conference duties are dispersed among other active members such as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and home visitors. Safe and Sacred As part of our commitment to the safety of children, the Archdiocese of Indianapolis requires that all volunteers age 18 and older who have contact with children com-plete a child protection program called Safe and Sa-cred. It provides on-line training in both English and Spanish and includes a background check and agree-ment to the Archdiocese Code of Conduct. The course can be completed in 45 minutes. You can access the Safe and Sacred program at www.safeandsacred-archindy.org. If you need assistance in completing the course, please contact the Parish Office. All catechists and catechist assistants must complete this training by no later than September 30th in order to continue working in our children's Faith Formation program.
Faith Formation News If your child is preparing to receive 1st Communion in 2019, please attend the parent child meeting on Monday October 8th from 6 to 7:30 PM in English, or on Saturday, October 13th from 9AM to 10:30 AM in Spanish. You will receive important information about preparing your child to make their first confession. If you are unable to attend ei-ther of these meetings, please contact the parish office to arrange for another time to meet. Attendance is required.
