Twenty‐third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 8, 2019

Dear Friends and Parishioners of St. Mary’s, First, a word of welcome to all our new parishioners who have moved in this past week! I hope and pray that you will find our community to be a welcoming place, where we are all growing together in faith, hope and love. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves to those seated around you and to the clergy following Mass. We are happy to have you with us! In last week’s bulletin, we published a partial listing of some of the ministries and activities that take place around our parish, which includes both St. Mary’s in Brookline Village as well as St. Lawrence in Chestnut Hill. We include it again in this week’s bulletin, especially for those who are new and looking for ways to get involved. Beginning on Monday, September 9th, we will celebrate an additional daily Mass, Monday through Friday, at 7:30 a.m. After consultation with the parishioners and the priests in the rectory these past few weeks, we decided on an early morning Mass as opposed to the evening Mass option. We are only able to offer this additional Mass because we currently have five priests living in the rectory. I am the only one assigned to the parish, but the others have generously offered to assist with daily Mass as their work and school schedules permit. Please note that we will only offer this additional Mass if we have the resident priests available. If the number of priest residents drops, we will have to drop the additional Mass, but for now it is great to be able to offer this for those of you who would like to take advantage of this opportunity for daily Mass on your way to work. I have asked the priests not to preach at this Mass, in order to keep it brief, making your commute a bit easier in the morning. Please come and join us! This week we opened our parish school with record enrollment, over 230 children! I am grateful to Dr. Theresa Kirk and to all our teachers and staff who have been busily preparing for this new academic year. On Thursday I was able to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit to begin the year, and then went around to all the classrooms, blessing the rooms and the students with holy water. Finally, I am happy to announce that we have a new website design! After a year of hard work and planning, our website is sleek and functional. I’m grateful to all our staff, especially Jenevieve Price, who coordinated the design with the Archdiocesan staff. I think it’s safe to say that we have one of the best parish websites! Check us out:

There is no weeknight rehearsal. New members of all voice types are welcome, but we especially need altos and sopranos. There is no audition, but you should be able to read music and sing in tune. If you are interested, just come to the choir loft at 9:30 am on September 9. Contact Arthur Rishi at [email protected] if you have questions.

Clergy Health and Retirement Trust Next Weekend

Whether they are working to enrich our parishes or seeing to the needs of the broader communities in which they serve, priests have dedicated their lives to helping all of God’s children. Truly, the strength and vibrancy of our communities depend on the health and well-being of our priests. Please support our priests by making a gift to the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust al clergytrust.org or by giving generously to the upcoming special collection next weekend. This dedicated second collection is a primary source of funding to care for our priests. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust—an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.
