“SUPPORTING THE VISION” The Annual Diocesan Appeal is an opportunity for us to be good stewards of God’s gifts as we share with other Catholics our treasure and our blessings and show our love for one another. The ADA gives us the opportunity to act together as a family of faith and support the programs and services no single individual or parish can offer by themselves. Your gift is important. Every

gift, regardless of size, is vital to the success of the Appeal. For those of you who have not yet made your pledges to this year’s ADA please consider a pledge by picking up a pledge envelope in the breezeway of the church. You may return the completed form to the parish office or mail it directly to the Diocese.

Sparking the Spirit Marketing God Inspired Strategies for

Building the Kingdom. Please join the Keokuk Deanery for this engaging presentation by Donna A. Heckler on Wednesday, October 16th at Notre Dame School, 700 Roosevelt Ave., Burlington. Donna will be presenting strategies from her book “Marketing God: Inspired Strategies for Building the Kingdom” which combines her deep marketing knowledge with her Catholic faith. She asks the question: Can secular strategies help to draw more people to God? Her hope is that if an organization follows some of the insights shared, that their radiance will shine brightly into the world and draw others to their good work and ultimately to God. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. Call 319-752-8771 for more information.

You are invited to an open forum on marriage, divorce and annulment presented by the Diocese of Davenport tribunal staff at 6:30 pm on Thursday, October 24th at Holy Family Parish in Ft. Madison. The presentation will take place in McAleer hall across from the church. Bring questions and learn what our Church teaches about marriage, divorce and annulments. Through the healing grace of Jesus Christ we can bring new hope and new life. No reservation required. Question please call Beth Blough, tribunal auditor at 563-888-4236. The Diocese of Davenport has launched the Covenant of Love Marriage Mentor Ministry: Trained Covenant of Love mentors are available throughout eastern Iowa. Mentors provide support, information and guidance for restoring and strengthening Christian marriages. More information and registration for couples interested in a mentor couple is available on the diocesan Covenant of Love webpage davenportdiocese.org.

World Mission Sunday: The Society for the Propagation

of the Faith We are Baptized and Sent! Next week is World

Mission Sunday, in a special Extraordinary Missionary

Month. We are called through our baptism to be part of

the Church’s missionary efforts, through prayer,

self-sacrifice and support of missionary vocations through material aid. Remembering that

we are baptized and sent as a Universal Church of Christ on mission in the world, we

can… PRAY for the Church’s worldwide missionary work OFFER financial HELP and

CHARITY through The Society for the Propagation of the Faith for vulnerable

communities throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.

Please welcome Cayden Ledbetter son of Marcus & Abbey (Ellingboe) Ledbetter into the Catholic faith through the sacrament of Baptism on September 25th at St. Mary’s. We pray that Cayden will continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ all the days of his life.

HTC News:

Our Crusaders had some amazing days this week that focused on our healthy bodies and our spiritual health. This past Wednesday, Oct. 2nd the elementary students had a CATCH Day. CATCH (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) is part of our physical education program and our students enjoyed a field day complete with dancing, relay games, races, and a picnic lunch. The CATCH Day also coincided with Iowa Healthiest State Walk Day. This worked as well since everyone walked from school to South Park for the field day events. Our teachers, staff, many parents, and a select group of high student council members did a tremendous job of making this day special for our HTC students.

The following day, our 6th - 8th grade students had the privilege to join a group of missionaries for a NET Retreat. NET Retreats are designed to present youth with the truth of who they are as God’s children and how true joy and meaning in life are found by accepting Christ’s gift of salvation and living as His disciple. The students participated in skits, group discussions, music, and a special time for prayer and

reflection. Please pray for our students that they hear this message and know God's love for them.

We are so grateful to share this message in our school and with our families. Thank you for our

teachers, Ms. Schumaker, Mrs. Peitz, and Ms. Taylor, for helping with the retreat. What a blessing!

The HTC Foundation Board has established the Heritage Society, a Planned Giving Program, to recognize those individuals who have made a commitment to carrying Catholic Education into the future by designating a portion of their Estate to benefit HTC Schools through the HTC Foundation, upon their passing. This can be done through your Will, or through various beneficiary designations using Life Insurance Policies, IRA/Retirement accounts, or other Assets. The HTC Foundation Board will be having a brunch reception on Wednesday, November 20, following the 8:45 a.m. weekly HTC School Mass in West Point, to honor and thank our current Heritage Society members. If you haven’t already received your invitation, and you have HTC in your Estate Plan, PLEASE let me know, so I can send you an invite! Please contact Joshua Ragar, HTC Development Director, at 837-8006 or at [email protected] so I can get you an invitation to our upcoming event.

God has given each of us many blessings. Fostering an “attitude of gratitude” might be easier than you think. Simple, concrete practices can help us to be more thankful more often. Incorporate it into your dinner with your spouse, or as you tuck the kids into bed at night. “What are three things you’re thankful for today?” Make a habit of writing one note a week to someone special in your life, thanking them for how they’ve impacted you. This is also a good practice in the workplace. Consider opening your weekly meetings with a quick round of gratitude sharing. “I’m grateful John helped me with that last-minute change to my presentation last week. I wouldn’t have finished it in time for the meeting without him.” Another way is to designate a few minutes to thank God. This could be the first bit of your daily prayer time or after you receive communion on Sundays. You can also integrate it into your daily routine. How about while brushing your teeth? There’s probably nothing so important it can’t wait two minutes. Brush your teeth, quiet your mind, and thank God from your heart for His blessings throughout the day . Get creative! Any moment is an opportunity to praise and thank God.

In remembering the St. Francis of Assisi saint day, Father Dennis had a blessing for parishioners pets after Mass on Friday, October 4th. If you missed the blessing this year ask

for it next year around St. Francis saint day.

G.I.F.T. (Growing In

Faith Together)

Wednesdays

7:00pm

Ossenbrink Center.

Did you ever wonder why Catholic do not allow a wedding

preformed outside, in wine vineyards or at a destination. The

church and all the people of God who witness the marriage

have a stake in the sacrament of marriage. A marriage unites

the couple with the universal church throughout the ages and

puts the ceremony in the common gathering place where other

sacred celebrations occur. Although as Christians we believe

that God is everywhere, we have set aside a special place for

community worship (Church buildings) why would we not

want to use them. Almost all holy sacraments are held in our

most sacred place.

Each week at G.I.F.T. there will be a different topic looked at

and discussed relating to our Catholic faith. Please join us!
