So Be Imitators of God, As Beloved Children, and Live in Love – The call of Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians to “be imitators of God” gives us pause to ponder what we expect of God and what we should expect of ourselves and others. Don’t we expect God to be patient, compassionate, loving, merciful and wise? Don’t we trust that God will provide for our needs, bestow peace in our hearts and be a source of courage and strength? Saint Paul, then, urges that our lives reflect these virtues and more so that others will know that God is alive in the world. The context of this responsibility of faith

is that we do it as beloved children of God, as beloved sisters and brothers. While family life is not always easy or without its challenges, the family is the most fundamental structure of love and support in our world. We seek to reflect the love of God as husbands and wives, parents and children, aunts and uncles. And as a family of faith this love must flow through us for others as we build up the Kingdom of God. May our efforts On Mission for The Church Alive! inspire us to live in love as a sisters and brothers in God our Father. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever.

Please consider becoming a member of the Legion of Mary

Have you noticed the free blessed rosar-ies at the entrances of our church? Have you had the pleasure of attending a bap-tism at our parish, and wonder, who are these people who assist Father or Dea-con in this sacrament? Have you ever felt a calling to pray, console, and give to others? The Legion of Mary may be for you! The Legion of Mary is a lay organi-zation that meets once a week in the Marian Room, prays the Rosary, and ac-cepts "assignments" to assist our pastor with spiritual works of mercy, such as visiting the sick, shut-ins, and new pa-rishioners. If you are yearning for a way to live the Christian life more fully in serving others, please consider coming to one of our meetings, held every Wednesday evening in the Marian Room at 6:30pm. There is no obligation to join by just attending a meeting- come and see what we are all about!

Marriage Moments: "The whole Israelite community grum-bled against Moses and Aaron." (Exodus 16:2) Sometimes there are plenty of reasons to grumble in marriage - not enough money, something breaks, your spouse forgot to get gas... Let's call for a grumble free day; or at least if a grumble occurs to you, put it in the perspective of all the blessings of your life together.~©2017 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net

Parenting Pointers : As older children continue their schooling this fall, it's tempting to want to pour all your pro-tective wisdom into them, especially around issues of faith. As they age, however, "share your faith struggles, not just your certainty." (Parenting Y our Adult Child) ~©2017 by Susan Vogt, www.SusanVogt.net

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults* (RCIA) is a journey where you can experience the Catholic faith community. It is an opportunity for questions to be answered and for learning about the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. Some of the things you will receive throughout your journey: A Bible and a copy of the Catechism of the Church. Are you:

A person who has not been baptized and would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, with the possibility of becoming a member of the Catholic Faith?

A Baptized Christian of another denomination who would like to learn about and possibly to

embrace Catholic tradition?

A Baptized Roman Catholic who has not re-ceived Eucharist or Confirmation and would like to become a full participant in the life of the Church?

Or someone who is a member of the Church but want to learn more.

The Christian Initiation process offers an environ-ment of support and guidance as you discover God is working in your life. Fr. Gregorek will be starting a new class in September of this year. Please contact the Parish Office at 412-221-1560 to sign-up for the first step in your journey!

STRENGTHENED BY THE BREAD OF LIFE Today we resume the "Bread of Life" discourse from John's Gospel that began two weeks ago. He makes reference to the Jews' an-cestors who ate manna in the desert. These days we would think primarily of Israel wandering in the desert, but faithful Jews would

also have known the story of Elijah that we hear today. Strengthened by food and drink in the desert, the angel of the Lord sends him on his forty-day and forty-night journey (the biblical number for a preparation time). Like the food given to Elijah in the desert, Jesus tells his listeners that he is bread for the life of the world. It is very important that we not stop listening to Jesus after his prom-ise of eternal life--a marvelous promise, but this "reward" is not the only reason we feast on the Bread of Life. We also come to the table to be made strong for the journey of mission, that the whole world might have life in the fullness of Christ. We are compelled,

if we have eaten of the bread of life, to go forth in service to all.
