supports the formation and training of seminarians in the

that many are responding to the call to serve as priests. Please be
generous and support these sem- inarians on their journey toward
their ordination to the priesthood. For more information, visit

APPRECIATION Fr. Michael Ssenfuma wishes to extend a heartfelt
appreciation to the Pastor and all the parishioners of St. Mary’s –
particularly the UCCB – for supporting him in the Boston Marathon.
Over $3,750 was raised, and the biggest portion of this fund
($3,000) was do- nated to Masaka Diocese to help in facilitating a
retreat for the clergy; 250 priests attend this retreat every year.
Jesus says, “No man has greater love than one who lays down his
life for his friends.” John 15:13 We brought a medal home, and for
the sec- ond year in a row we raised money to benefit causes. Thank
you!

HUMANAE VITAE– 50 YEARS AGO We continue to publish Blessed Pope

III. PASTORAL DIRECTIVES
Christian Compassion 29. Now it is an outstanding manifestation of
charity toward souls to omit nothing from the saving doctrine of
Christ; but this must always be joined with tolerance and charity,
as Christ Him- self showed in His conversations and dealings with
men. For when He came, not to judge, but to save the world, was He
not bitterly severe toward sin, but patient and abounding in mercy
toward sinners? Husbands and wives, therefore, when deeply
distressed by reason of the difficulties of their life, must find
stamped in the heart and voice of their priest the likeness of the
voice and the love of our Redeemer. So speak with full confidence,
beloved sons, convinced that while the Holy Spirit of God is
present to the magisterium pro- claiming sound doctrine, He also
illumines from within the hearts of the faithful and invites their
assent. Teach married couples the necessary way of prayer and
prepare them to approach more of- ten with great faith the
Sacraments of the Eucharist and of Pen- ance. Let them never lose
heart because of their weakness. to be continued

Domingo de Pentecostés 9 de Junio 2019
My brothers and sisters in Christ, The pilgrimage to the Holy Land
was a moment of great grace for the 41 young adults and college
students who spent the two weeks traveling through Jordan and
Israel. How to describe these young Christians – encountering the
Lord – joyful, serious, open, chari- table, receptive, giving,
patient, hopeful and grateful – just as I imagine the twelve
Apostles and disciples of Jesus were as they traveled the same
roads with Jesus 2,000 years ago. How to de- scribe the daily life
of our fellow Christians who live in the Holy Land – challenging, a
constant struggle for survival; a testing and experience that
requires perseverance; patience; courage and de- termination. The
population of modern Jerusalem numbers around 900,000. The
Christian population of the city is 2,000. They are to be admired
for maintaining the presence of the Church in such difficult
situations. They do so with the heroic work of the Franciscans who
have been entrusted with the custo- dy of the Holy Sites since St.
Francis of Assisi made his own pil- grimage to Palestine. The
pilgrims experienced many beautiful moments throughout the trip.
Over the coming weeks, I will share some of them with you through
the bulletin. In the meantime, let us thank the Lord for blessing
this work and pray that many fruits of the Spirit will be born in
the lives of these young people. – Fr. Michael

will be visiting the parish on Sunday June 3rd to offer Mass on the
Feast of the Body and Blood of the Lord just as he did last year on

UGANDA MARTYRS’ DAY For the tenth year in a row, St. Mary’s is
blessed to host the Uganda Martyrs Feast for the Archdiocese of
Boston. This year we welcome two sons of Africa to lead us in
worship: Bishop Victor Phalana of South Africa and Bishop Sanctus
Lino Wanok of Uganda. This celebration remembers the courageous
laymen who were killed and martyred under the orders of King Mwanga
II on June 3, 1886, because they refused to renounce the Christian
faith. We welcome everyone to celebrate with us on June 9 at 1:00
p.m. This feast has the power to unite all people of
goodwill.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Today as we celebrate Pentecost the Holy Spirit
wants to make us advocates of God’s presence to bring new life to
others, especial- ly those who do not know the love of God in their
lives. Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the
poor to believe in the mystery of God’s love for them. Seeking the
grace of the Holy Spirit, we pray, Come, Holy Spirit. That the
winds of Pentecost may move us to deeds of love, Come, Holy Spirit.
That the fire of Pentecost may breathe new hope into the hopeless,
Come, Holy Spirit. That we may lead the poor to find their way to
God, Come, Holy Spirit. Amen.

looking for volunteers who would like to knit or crochet shawls
that are given to parishioners who are ill or experiencing crisis.
These shawls are distributed by our priests and Communion Ministers
when they visit the sick and homebound. They are a source of
comfort, a gesture of kindness, and a reminder to the recipient
that others care about them and are praying for them. The group
meets on the third Saturday of each month at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary
Apartments. The next meeting is June 15. All are welcome. For more

AFTER SCHOOL CORNER
Gardening
On a beautiful afternoon this Spring, a group of the children led
by Crystal Juliano planted different flowers and herbs in the St.
Mary's Garden. The children worked well together and enjoyed their
afternoon as they planted marigolds and petunias to keep the
grounds of St. Mary's beautiful. They also planted various herbs
such as parsley, rosemary, thyme, basil, and lavender. Everyone had
fun and looks forward to more gardening at the St. Mary's After
School Program!
As the earth brings forth its shoots, and a garden makes its seeds
spring up, so will the Lord GOD make justice spring up,
and praise before all the nations. - Isaiah 61:11
