AUBURN — N. CAYUGA PARISHES ~ PASTORAL PLANNING UP-
DATE: FUTURE WEEKEND MASS SCHEDULE CHOSEN: Thank you to all of you who participated in one of the April Parishioner Meet-ings—as you will see, your comments were critical in helping the planning team reach the best possible decision. Because Bishop Matano has already announced priest appointments for this June, the Mass schedule below is not expected to go into effect this summer. The schedule chosen is as follows: Cluster 1: Our Lady of the Snow, Ss. Mary and Martha, St. Mary’s
Saturday: 4:00 pm at St. Francis or St. Hyacinth, 5:30 pm at St. Mary’s
Sunday: 7:00 am at St. Mary’s, 8:15 am at St. Patrick in Cato, 8:30 am at St. Francis or St. Hyacinth, 10:00 am at St. Joseph in Weedsport, 10:30 am (tentative time) at St. Mary’s, 11:30 am at St. Francis or St. Hyacinth. The Ss. Mary and Martha pastoral council will choose the rotation for St. Francis and St. Hyacinth. The St. Mary’s pastoral council will decide whether 10:15, 10:30, or 10:45 am is the best beginning time. Although there will be no weekend Mass at St. John’s in Port Byron, the church is likely to keep their Friday Mass and groups like the Knights of Columbus and the Altar and Rosary Society will continue to meet. The church will not close. There will be time to work out rides to a weekend Mass for those who need one.
Cluster 2: Holy Family, Sacred Heart/St. Ann, St. Alphonsus
Saturday: 4:00 pm at Holy Family, 4:30 and 5:30 pm rotation between Sacred Heart and St. Alphonsus
Sunday: 7:30 am at Sacred Heart, 8:45 am at St. Ann, 9:00 am at Holy Family, 10:15 am at St. Alphonsus, 11:00 am at Sacred Heart. The pastoral councils of Sacred Heart and St. Alphonsus will determine the rotation of Saturday night Masses.
Regional Mass: Sunday at 5:00 pm at St. Alphonsus
The presentation and notes from the four April parishioner meetings plus the compiled parishioner survey responses are all available on the Auburn-N. Cayuga website: http://auburnweedsportcatholicchurches.org/ or in the parish office. Please continue to pray for the health and wellbeing of our six parishes.
FROM THE PASTOR 20 May 2018
The Solemnity of Pentecost marks the end of the Easter Season. For fifty days we have been cele-brating our redemption through the death and resur-rection of Christ Jesus. Easter is still alive at Pente-cost. The gift of the Holy Spirit is not separate from the death and resurrection of the Lord. The first Gospel option for the Mass of the Day on Pentecost makes that rather clear - the Spirit was given on Easter Sunday, even though we contin-ue to celebrate that gift this weekend. All Masses this weekend conclude with the double Alleluia, just like Easter and the Octave of Easter – another reminder that Pentecost is part of the Easter Celebration. In the Acts of the Apostles, the coming of the Holy Spirit is described as “a noise like a strong driv-ing wind.” The wind is an appropriate image. We cannot see the wind, but we can feel it. We can see its effects, from gently blowing leaves on a tree to the heavy winds of a tornado. Similarly, we cannot see
the Spirit. But we can feel the effects of the Spirit, whether a gentle nudge to reach out or speak out when we’re reluctant to do so or a momentous deci-sion to change our life. St. John’s account of the Holy Spirit de-scending upon the apostles is not of a strong driving wind and tongues of fire. Instead, John speaks of the Holy Spirit coming with the breath of Jesus. It recalls the breath of life that God breathed into the first human being in the Book of Genesis. It is a very intimate action. Also, it is a creative action, an action that gives life. It gave life to the small band of disciples, driving them from a locked room where they hid in fear to their mission of witnessing and baptizing to the ends of the earth. That same Spirit gives us life to go forth to our mission of witnessing to Jesus Christ in our family, neighborhood and wider com-munity. Fr. Lioi
DIOCESAN MISSION SUNDAY is today. We are filled with renewed faith as the Holy Spirit comes upon us and calls us to move beyond our daily concerns, important as they are, to help the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brazil and the Sisters of Mercy in Chile bring the faith to God’s people. The support of our Diocesan Missionaries by the Church of Rochester is a great piece of our history. Thank you for your generosity in the second collection.
CINDERELLA, a musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein, will be performed by students from Tyburn Academy at the West End Theatre (formerly West Middle School) on Genesee Street on Saturday, May 19 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 20 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors/students and $5 for children under

MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH is a new obligatory memorial to be celebrated every year on the Monday following the Feast of Pentecost. In a decree dated February 11, 2018, Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, announced that “Pope Francis has decreed that the Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church, should be inscribed in the Roman calendar on the Monday after Pentecost and be celebrated every year.” Therefore, in the Latin-rite Church, this obligatory memorial will have precedence over any other memorial of a saint or blessed on the Monday following Pentecost.
STEWARDSHIP of TREASURE
Thank you for your regular and make-up sacrifices.
DEACON'S CORNER: "In the sacraments we have an entirely unique order of being, and to appreciate the mystery of the Holy Eucharist we have to bear this fact in mind" Merton instructs us in section three. The Real Presence he tells us is "not simply a mental object" but "the Whole Christ, really and integrally present as a Person". The "sacramental presence no less real but the mode of his presence is...completely different with no parallel in the natural order". Merton advises the reader in trying to understand the Eucharistic Mystery to contemplate the Last Supper when Jesus is both physically and sacramentally present simultaneously. He goes on to suggest that to understand fully "we must see Him (in the Host) with the eyes of our spirit, illuminated by loving faith". "The charity of Christ... hidden in the Blessed Eucharist" is best responded to by my believing "in its’
inexpressible reality and act according to my beleif".
THE BREAD OF LIFE: FOUNDATIONS OF A EUCHARISTIC SPIRITU-
ALITY: Dr. Matthew Kuhner, is offering eight spiritual talks at St Mary's Church Hall leading up to the Feast of Corpus Christi. The talks explore the foundational ways in which the Eucharistic encounter can take root in our lives, shaping our spirituality, our work, and our relationships. There are 2 one hour talks given each Wednesday starting at 10:30 AM with Eucharistic Adoration and lunch break between the talks. A free lunch is provided to those who sign up for lunch by calling St Mary's 252 9545 at least 24 hours prior to each talk.

MEMORIAL DAY is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2018 in this same year as St. Mary’s is ob-

MEMORIAL DAY MASS will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery on Monday, May 28 at 9:00 am (if inclement weather, the Mass will be at 9:30 at St. Mary’s Church). CATHOLIC SCHOOLS across our country are facing many chal-lenges today, mostly due to de-clining enrollments. All this comes at a time when our society so desperately needs Catholic schools. This is why we are form-ing a Memorare Army and are asking for your prayers. Will you join in praying 100 Memorares for an increase in enrollment at St. Joseph School & Tyburn Academy? We are praying one Memorare a day for 100 days be-ginning May 8. We will end our prayer campaign on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption. A copy of the Memorare Prayer is on the front cover of the bulletin. Our goal is to have 100 people enrolled. That means that 10,000 prayers will be said for the fu-ture growth of our schools! Registration currently is taking place at St. Joseph School and Tyburn Academy. Call or stop by St. Joseph School at 89 E. Gene-see Street or Tyburn Academy at 17 Clymer Street for more infor-mation.
