Lifelong Catechesis

IN LOVING MEMORY Please remember in your prayers,

Rudy Schellenberger, husband of Anna May, and Elizabeth E. J. Pifer, mother of Jim, who entered into their new and eternal life in Christ recently.

" ... For It Is In Giving That We Receive ..." (From Prayer of St. Francis)

Truer words were never spoken. Lent tells us what matters isn’t our money in the bank, but what we do with it. For us Christians, we can add what matters is how we use it to help others. Thus, the

DIOCESAN ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL.

The Annual Catholic Appeal’s purpose is to assist Catholic Charities, Prison Ministry, Catholic Education students, Youth and Young Adults, Evangelization through TV programming, Pastoral Care of the aged and sick, Seminarians and Financially Stressed Parishes. (For details, refer to the pamphlet, “Act of Faith, Works of Love”.) Not a penny for anything else!

Donate by completing a card found in the Gathering Space and plac-ing in the offertory basket; pay on-line at www.dioceseoftrenton.org/catholicappeal; send in a check or money order payable to Annual Catholic Appeal to diocesan office (see address in pamphlet) or phone 609-403-7197. God’s blessings.

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Lent. Former astro-nauts commented about how the excitement of going into space dwarfed the fear of dan-ger, but the fear was there nonetheless. This is the risk of venturing forth. Jesus com-mands the disciples to “Rise, and do not be afraid.” The journey of discipleship has its dangers (temptations/ridicule) but we still venture forth on the journey to eternal glory. We trust in God’s guidance (given through Law, prophets, teachings of Jesus, gospel liv-ing modeled by others) and surrender our-selves into God’s hands. All we need do is lis-ten. Listening to God can come through the readings and homily on Sunday. It can come through our own practice of taking some time every day to read God’s word in Scripture. It might come through the guidance we seek in spiritual direction. There are many ways God makes known the divine will for us. Listening means all these things but, most importantly, it means that we keep our eyes focused on the vision of Jesus transfigured and know that God, in great love and divine mercy, intends that we share in that same glory. We cannot lose sight of Jesus himself.

As we continue our journey through this Sea-son of Lent, consider participating in daily Mass in our parish. This is an awesome way to deepen our prayer life and get to know other parishioners. Remember in your prayer those who are preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation this year, especially Hannah Quin-cannon of our parish. This is a special time of grace for all those discerning full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and for our particular parish. In the coming weeks we will be inviting parishioners to take on various roles in the celebrations of Holy Week, The Paschal Triduum and Easter. Please be gen-

erous in responding yes to these invitations. Our community prayer is the responsibility of all of us. We are so blessed to be a commu-nity that is welcoming and prayerful. Let us continue to build upon these aspects of our life together so that we might continue to wel-come new members as well as those who are returning to our community.

We have completed the implementation of the Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) at the Saturday 5:00pm; Sunday 10:00am & 12:00 Noon Masses each weekend throughout the year. This is a great opportunity for families to participate in the Sunday Eucharist. Chil-dren ages 4-12 are dismissed from the congre-gation to hear the Readings, a reflection, and say the Creed together while the adult com-munity remains in the congregation. The children are re-united with the congregation for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We accom-modated 60 or so children last weekend. A few parents commented to me how helpful this is for them as they try to bring their chil-dren to Mass each Sunday. I am also hopeful that this will also help the children of our par-ish to continue to grow in their faith together as we strive to build up the community of our church through worship and faith formation. Many thanks to those parishioners who are generously sharing their time and talent to provide for the needs of our children.

We continue to make progress in reaching our goal for this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal 2014. Every gift matters. Please make your gift to the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal this week. Thank you to those who have already made their gift to the 2014 ACA. Thank you for all of your support. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer.

Peace. Father Jeff

BOOK CLUB

As we approach the end of our Walking with Purpose: Choosing the Better Part, Course 101, we are looking to the future.

Almost three months ago, fifty-eight women came to-gether, many meeting for the first time, to become closer to God and one another, and to study the Bible. It has been a thrill to be part of such an uplifting, thought pro-voking process. Many of our members have asked, “What Now?” So we have decided to offer a book club which will last for six weeks. The book and discussion is: Walking with Purpose: Seven Priorities that Make Life Work, by Lisa Benninkmeyer. We welcome all of the women of our Parish to join!

Meetings: Thursdays, May 1 to June 5 Madonna Hall Babysitting Available

Book Cost: $3.00 (other materials provided)

More Info: www.walkingwithpurpose.com

To join the Book Club, call Molly Aiello 732-598-6808 or Angela Kinlin 732-946-9196.

An Urgent Request From the Martha Mary Guild—After many years of faithful service, Kathy Faistl and Maureen Vigli-etta have “retired” from chairing the Refreshments committee. Their monthly set-up was greatly appreciated and they are truly missed! Now it is time for other members to fill in this gap, if we want to continue enjoying refreshments at meet-ings. This position involves making calls to the list of volunteer bakers and getting to the meeting ahead of time to start the coffee pot and set out the “goodies”. Won’t you please consider taking on this task? For more information call Ellen Balestiero at 732-946-2671 or Barbara Matuscak at 732-739-3685.
