LITURGY OF THE WORD Lectionary #106 Judgment seems to come from God, but actually our actions prepare the judgment that we receive.

First Reading Wisdom 12:13, 16-19 God is a God of might and of mercy. The mighty face of God is shown to those who disbelieve and act

accordingly; God’s mercy appears to those who are faithful and just.

Responsorial Psalm #115 Ritual Song “Lord, you are good and forgiving.” An individual lament, perhaps sung by a king under attack, expresses

confidence in God and thanksgiving for the salvation that God promises.

Second Reading Romans 8:26-27 God’s grace is at work in us even (or especially) when we feel helpless to do anything. It is then, as the

popular poster goes, when there is only one set of footprints, that God is carrying us.

Gospel Acclamation #405

Gospel Verse (Sung by Cantor): “Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; | you have revealed to the little ones

the mysteries of- the- kingdom.”

Repeat Alleluia Refrain Priest: The Lord be with you. R/. And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to N. R/. Glory to you, O Lord. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. R/. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel Matthew 13:24-43 or 13:24-30 Three parables of the kingdom. Why do bad people get good stuff and never seem to suffer? One answer

suggested by the first parable is: God is biding time, waiting until the harvest, when the wheat will be

gathered into barns and the weeds will be bundled for burning. The second and third parables describe the

kingdom growing in our midst, almost unseen, yet with dramatic consequences.

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. R/. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible

and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of

the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For

us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man

(upright). For our sake, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and

rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no

end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father

and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken

through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one

Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and

the life of the world to come. Amen. General Intercessions
