SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Reading of Holy Gospel according to Matthew 17: 1-9 Jesus took Peter, James and his brother Juan with them and took them apart to a high mountain. He transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes turned white as light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared talking to him. Peter, then, took the floor and said to Jesus: - “Lord, how good it is that we are here! If you want, I will make three stores: one for you, another for Moses and one for Elijah. ” I was still talking when a luminous cloud covered them with its shadow, and a voice from the cloud said: - “This is my Son, the be-loved, in whom I take pleasure. Listen to it. “Upon hearing it, the disciples fell on their faces, full of horror. Jesus ap-proached and, touching them, said: - "Get up, do not fear." When they looked up, they saw no one but Jesus, alone. When they came down from the moun-tain, Jesus sent them: - "Do not tell any-one the vision until the Son of man rises from the dead."

UNA NUEVA VISIÓN DE QUIÉN ES JESÚS "¿Pero quién dices que SOY?" Simón Peter dijo en respuesta:

"Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo del Dios viviente". –Mateo 16: 15-16 El Evangelio de hoy presenta la narración de la transfiguración de Jesús. El Señor permitió que la gloria divina que se entiende a través de la fe en su predicación y sus gestos milagrosos brille dentro de él. La transfiguración fue acompañada por la aparición de Moisés y Elías que estaban "hablando con él". El "brillo" que caracteriza este evento ex-traordinario simboliza su propósito: iluminar las mentes y los corazones de los discípulos para que puedan entender claramente quién es su maestro. Es un destello de luz que de repente se abre al mis-terio de Jesús e ilumina a toda su persona y a toda su historia. Transfigurado en el monte Tabor, Je-sús quería mostrar a su discípulo su gloria, no para que eludieran la cruz, sino para mostrar a dónde conduce la cruz. Los que mueren con Jesús resuci-tarán con Jesús. La cruz es la puerta a la resurrec-ción. Quien lucha junto a él triunfará con él. Este es el mensaje de esperanza contenido en la cruz de Jesús, instándonos a ser fuertes en nuestra exis-tencia. ¿Cómo ha cambiado más mi comprensión de Jesús durante esta

temporada de Cuaresma?

SEGUNDO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA

Lectura del Santo evangelio según san Mateo 17:1-9 Jesús tomo consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a su hermano Juan y se los llevo apar-te a un monte alto. Se trasfiguro delante de ellos, y su rostro resplandecía como el sol, y sus vestidos se volvieron blan-cos como la luz. De repente se les apare-cieron Moisés y Elías conversando con él. Pedro, entonces, tomo la palabra y dijo a Jesús:--“Señor, ¡qué bueno es que estemos aquí! Si quieres, hare tres tien-das: una para ti, otra par Moisés y otra para Elías”. Todavía estaba hablando cuando una nube luminosa los cubrió con su sombra, y una voz desde la nube decía:--“Este es mi Hijo, el amado, en quien me complazco. Escuchadlo”. Al oírlo, los discípulos cayeron de bruces, llenos de espanto. Jesús se acercó y, to-cándolos, les dijo:--“Levantaos, no te-máis”. Al alzar los ojos, no vieron a na-die más que a Jesús, solo. Cuando baja-ban del monte, Jesús les mando:--“No contéis a nadie la visión hasta que el Hi-jo del hombre resucite entre los muer-tos”.

A NEW VISION OF WHO JESUS IS “But who do you say that I AM?” Simon Peter said in reply,

“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” –Mathew 16:15-16

Today’s Gospel presents the narrative of the transfig-uration of Jesus. The Lord allowed the divine glory which be understood through faith in his preaching and his miraculous gestures to shine within him. The transfiguration was accompanied by the apparition of Moses and Elijah who were “talking with him.” The “brightness” which characterizes this extraordinary event symbolizes its purpose: to enlighten the minds and hearts of the disciples so that they may clearly un-derstand who their teacher is. It is a flash of light which suddenly opens onto the mystery of Jesus and illuminates his whole person and his whole story. Transfigured on Mount Tabor, Jesus wanted to show his disciple his glory, not for them to circumvent the cross, but to show where the cross leads. Those who die with Jesus shall rise again with Jesus. The cross is the door to resurrection. Whoever struggle alongside him will triumph with him. This is the message of hope contained in Jesus’ cross, urging us to be strong in our existence. How has my understanding of Jesus been changing the most during

this Lenten season?
