General Information Skill Level: Confident Beginner Please read all instructions before beginning. All seams are sewn with a 1/4” seam

allowance. Pre-wash is not recommended. WOF = Width of Fabric is based on 42”.

Press all seams open (unless directedotherwise) to decrease bulk.

Finished Blocks will vary in size. Label all pieces when cut for easier

construction.

(If using WIDE Backing you will need 1-3/4 Yards)

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric1. Fabric A – Fussy Cut “Saint Nicholas” to measure 19-3/4” x 28-1/4” (Center),

then fussy cut (4) of the “Birds” at 6-3/4” squares as illustrated on the CoverPhoto (Border 4 Cornerstones).

2. Fabric B – Cut as follows:a. Cut (4) strip at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (2) 1-1/2” x 28-1/4”

rectangles (Left and Right Sides) and (2) 21-3/4” x 1-1/2” rectangles(Top and Bottom) – Border 1.

b. Cut (4) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (2) 1-1/2” x 38-3/4”rectangles (Left and Right Sides) and (2) 32-1/4” x 1-1/2” rectangles (Top an

4. Fabric D – Cut (2) strips at 3-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (14) 3-1/2” squares – Bloc5. Fabric E – Cut as follows:

a. Fussy cut (10) Snowflakes at 3-1/2” squares ON POINT – Block A.b. Fussy cut (4) Snowflakes at 4-3/4” square – Border 2 Cornerstones.

Step 2 – Sewing Blocks A and B6. Sew (1) Fabric C triangle to opposite edges of (1) Fabric E 3-1/2” square with the

triangle towards the square, then sew (1) Fabric C triangle to the remaining twoat 4-3/4” square as illustrated in the Finished Blocks for “Block A” – Make (10) –aside for use later.

7. Do exactly the same process for Block B as done for Block A except replace Fabric E with Fabric D asillustrated in the Finished Blocks for “Block B” – Make (14) – Label “Block B” and set aside for use later.

Step 3 – Sewing on Border 1, 2 and 38. Sew (1) Fabric B 1-1/2” x 28-1/4” rectangle to the left and right sides of (1) Fabric A 19-3/4” x 28-1/4”

rectangle, then sew (1) Fabric B 21-3/4” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the top and bottom to measure 21-3/4” x30-1/4” to finish Border 1.

Note: Each time a border is added to the CENTER it will then be referred to as the Center for less confusion.

9. Referring to the illustration of the Cover Photo – Sew Block A, Block B, and Border 2 (Cornerstones)together as follows:

a. Left and Right Sides – Sew the blocks together from top to bottom to measure 4-3/4” x 30-1/4”(Make 2) – Block B, Block A, Block B, Block A, Block B, Block A, Block B, then sew to the left andright sides of the Center to measure 30-1/4” x 30-1/4”.

b. Top and Bottom – Sew the blocks together from left to right to measure 30-1/4” x 4-3/4” (Make 2)– Fabric E 4-3/4” Square, Block B, Block A, Block B, Block A, Block B, Fabric E 4-3/4” Square, thensew to the top and bottom to finish Border 2 at 30-1/4” x 38-3/4”.

10. Sew (1) Fabric B 1-1/2” x 38-3/4” rectangle to the left and right sides of the Center, then sew (1) FabricB 32-1/4” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the top and bottom to finish Border 3 at 32-1/4” x 40-3/4”.

Step 4 – Border 411. SIDES – Sew (1) Fabric C 6-3/4” x 40-3/4” rectangle to the left and right sides with the DARKEST tone

towards the outside as illustrated in the Cover Photo to measure 44-3/4” x 40-3/4”.12. TOP – Sew (1) Fabric A 6-3/4” square to each 6-3/4” edge of (1) Fabric C 32-1/4” x 6-3/4” rectangle

with the DARKEST tone towards the TOP as illustrated in the Cover Photo, then sew to the top of theCenter.

13. BOTTOM – Sew (1) Fabric A 6-3/4” square to each 6-3/4” edge of (1) Fabric C 32-1/4” x 6-3/4”rectangle with the DARKEST tone towards the BOTTOM as illustrated in the Cover Photo, then sew tothe bottom to finish the quilt top at 44-3/4” x 53-1/4”.

Step 5 – Finishing the QuiltNote about Backing:You may use a 1-3/4 yards piece of wide backing. Or if using 42” to 44” wide fabric, cut (2) backing pieces at 1-3/4 yards by WOF, and the seam will be horizontal. If using directional print, cut (2) backing pieces at 2 yardsby WOF, and the seam will be vertical. Sew the SELVAGE edges together using a 1” seam then trim the selvageoff and press to one side.

14. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top and quilt as desired.15. Using joined 2-1/2” strips of Fabric B sew on the binding to finish the quilt.
