Opening The Doors Of His Mercy
It is time once again for us to participate with our brothers and sisters in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston in our annual Catholic Sharing Appeal to fund the collective ministries we do as the Church of
West Virginia. These include:
Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Catholic Education and Catholic Charities.
Each of these is beyond the capabilities and reach of any one parish and thus is a responsibility of all Catholics in our statewide diocese. Our Annual Sharing Appeal raises funds not only to fund these ministries but also to assist local parish in funding their own ministry since half the fund raised are
returned to the parish.
Our St. Paul Parish Goal this year is $29,025
Thus far in the Campaign our parish has reached 33% of our goal. Once we real 50% we will receive back all the funds above that amount for use in the parish for our own projects.
Please take the time to complete the mailer sent to your home and make some contribution to the Catholic Sharing Appeal. We are doing our part to help the Catholic Community of
West Virginia serve the needs of our state and do the work of Christ here.

A TRINITARIAN CREED
The Nicene Creed, also called the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, presents the basic Catholic teaching about the nature of God. Catholics, Orthodox, and many Protestants accept the ancient Nicene creed.
The current form of the creed was written at the Councils of Nicaea (AD 325) and Constantinople (AD 381). Over 300 bishops from all over the world gathered to write the creed, in response to Arianism, a form of Christianity that denied Jesus was fully God. The Nicene Creed ultimately explains the Church's teachings about the Trinity, but it also affirms historical realities of Jesus' life. Even though the Creed does not directly quote Scripture, it is based on biblical concepts.
As Christians recite the Creed together today, it is divided into three sections each focused on the Three Persons of the Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The last section is especially noteworthy in that the work of the Spirit continues in the on-going life of the church: the preaching of the Gospel, baptism for the forgiving of sins up until the day of the resurrection of our bodies and life ever-lasting. This Creed is repeated every week as part of our Sunday liturgy as a brief statement of our central faith understandings.
All over the world, Christians of many denominations continue to recited this ancient creed and, despite our differences of practice and particular belief, profess our faith in the holy Trinity.

NEVER ALONE
The local support group for parents, family, friends and community interested in drug and alcohol addiction is now meeting here at St. Paul’s in our parish office conference room on
Monday evenings at 6:00. This wonderful group has been providing encouragement as well as education and support to those in our area struggling with issues related especially to the abuse of substances. If you have these issues in your family or know someone who does,
come on Mondays to find a welcoming group of folks, many of whom have been there and/or are there!
SHARING FAITH WITH OUR CHILDREN
Our Family Faith FUNdamentals concluded its program last weekend with a celebration of all classes. The parish owes a debt of gratitude to the catechists who worked each Sunday
throughout the year with our children to help them grow in faith. Many thanks to Christy Valero for coordinating our program and to Carol Bradley and Brandi Stewart. Many thanks as well to
the parents who faithfully brought their children to the program on Sunday mornings.
TABLE OF HOPE
Free Hot Meals are provided at First Methodist Church on West Street 5-6 pm Monday, Wednesday & Fridays. Everyone is welcome to come to share the meal and the fellowship.
Our next parish day to serve will be May 27. Sign up sheet is in the back of the church.
COMMUNITY BREAD B ASKET
The big winner was the people who come for food at the Bread basket! But among the Saints, St. Paul School and Parish was again victorious in the Battle of the Saints to collect food for
the Bread Basket. We collected 1,560 pounds and St. Joe’s collected 1,225 pounds! For grand total of 2,785 pounds of food! Many thanks to the SPS students who coordinated this drive and to all who brought food. Don’t forget to continue bringing non-perishable foods, soaps, paper products for distribution at our ecumenical food pantry. The month of May our
parish is asked to bring Pancake mix & syrup.

Background: With the Easter season now concluded, the Church’s liturgical calendar
observes two so-called ‘doctrinal feasts” — the Holy Trinity and Body and
Blood of Christ — before we return to the “Ordinary Time” readings and
prayers. The Gospel text this week is from the Farewell discourse of John’s
Gospel and is focused on the relationship of Jesus, the Father and the Spirit of
truth. It not only explains the Holy Trinity but rather gives insights in the
mystery of the Trinity’s interaction with us.

St. Paul School is currently searching for Certified Teachers in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts for grades 5-8. St. Paul Cemetery announces that all artificial flowers are to be placed on the graves in the approved vases near the stone. A Memorial Day Mass will be held at St. Paul Cemetery at 10 am on Monday, May 30th. All are invited to attend. Fr. Tom Magary invites all our parishioners to attend the 50th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on Sunday, May 29th for a 2 pm Mass of Thanksgiving at Holy Family Church, 2608 Hollywood Blvd, Steubenville, Ohio. Annual morning tennis camp is set for June 6 through June 10 at Starvaggi Park for all boys and girls grades 1 through 9. Camp runs each day from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM for grades 1 through 4 ($35); 10:30 to 12:00 Noon for grades 5 through 9 ($50). Sandi Gajtka and Sue Wesie are again coordinating the five morning camp that will include fundamental instruction and skill games/drills. Each camper is required to have a tennis racquet, water bottle, and two (2) cans of USTA approved tennis balls. Sign-ups are currently being taken at the Millsop Community Center. Italian classes are offered at Holy Family Church-Malara Hall in Steubenville starting June 28th thru August 9th by Domenico DiBacco 304-670-3123.
