JANUARY 21, 2018—THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
COLLECTION COUNTING HELPERS
The parish has struggled in recent months to have enough help on Sunday mornings to count the weekly collection. Volunteers seem to
want their Sunday mornings to themselves. Thus we would like to try a different approach and seek some volunteers on Monday mornings following the daily mass to assist in counting the collections from the weekend masses. This process should take no more than two hours
each week and the more volunteers we have the fewer times each one will have to be scheduled. If you can volunteer to be a counter, please call the office
and let us know. We will develop a schedule and let you know of your turn.
Going to be hospitalized? Or homebound and can’t come to mass?
Please call the parish office and let us know! Because of privacy laws the hospital cannot call churches to tell us who is there unless the patient upon admission or upon specific request tells the staff they are Catholic and to which parish they be- long.
AUTOMATIC WITHDRAWAL: HAVE YOU SIGNED UP YET? Sign up forms are in the back of church or call Richelle in the parish office for more
details.
This week: Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Jonah 3:1-5,10; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 Mark 1:14-20
Background: Last week we had the Gospel of John’s take on the call of the first disciples and this week it is Mark’s turn. And a very different turn it is! Jesus makes a direct call to Peter and Andrew and then to James and John. These four “immediately” respond and follow him. Mark’s
Gospel has cleared away any previous meeting, any time for reflection or discussion with families and emphasizes “immediate” and complete
following of Jesus. The evangelist wants to impress upon his readers the need to dedicate ourselves totally to discipleship, without reservation or
hesitation.
Next Week: Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Deuteronomy 18:15-20 I Corinthians 7:32-35 Mark 1:21-28

DON’T FORGET THE COMMUNITY BREAD BASKET For more than a decade now our parish has been one of the principal sponsors of the
Community Bread Basket. We have supplied non-perishable foods and a monthly support check to help support this ecumenical ministry to supply food for people in our
area. There are two wicker baskets near the table with the Bread and Wine in the back of the church to receive any foods we can bring for the Bead Basket to
distribute: cereal, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, condiments like catsup and mustard, canned veggies or fruit, paper and hygiene products, laundry and bath soaps—the
same sort of products we all use at home. Our Mark White will take all these items to the CBB sometime during the week for us.
ANNUAL FEAST OF SAINT PAUL DINNER On Sunday, January 28, at 4 pm we will have our annual dinner in honor of our
parish patron, Saint Paul. The Feast of his Conversion is on the previous Thursday. This dinner has become a traditional event in recent years as an
occasion for the parish to come together to socialize and celebrate our community. There is no charge for the dinner (though a free-will offering will be accepted). The organizers of the dinner need an accurate count of how many
will be attending, so if you plan to attend please sign up in the back of the church or call the parish office so they can order sufficient meals.
