From the entire staff at St. Paul’s,

Happy New Year!

“May God’s peace be with you and remain

with you throughout the year.”

Dear Friends,

Let me take this opportunity to wish you a joyful beginning to the whole Christmas season and a happy New Year! We are delighted that you are here with us and promise our prayers for you and all your loved ones. We’re grateful to those who helped with decorating, singing, cleaning, serving, greeting, lecturing, distributing Holy Communion and praying here with us.

This week we come together once more for the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. To celebrate this beautiful day, we will have a Vigil Mass on Monday, Dec. 31 at 5:00pm and at 11:00 am on Tuesday morning, Janu-ary 1. (Please note the special times.) What a beautiful way to usher in the New Year.

We are grateful for your generosity for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day collection. The entire offertory is exclusively for the health care and retirement support of our Boston priests and I can speak for them in extending their appreciation and gratitude. If you were away and would like to be part of this outreach, please know you can do so through the parish at any time.

A reminder about the Increased Offertory Collection and a slight modification: Pledge forms are available at the back of the Church and can be filled out and returned at any time. We are grateful to those who have already done so with such generosity. We are now planning to extend this process through January. At that time, we will have the opportunity to fill out the forms during the Mass on a weekend to be determined, as we have done in previous years. Thanks so much for your prayerful consideration for your offertory giving. Your support provides for the care of our parish which impacts people here in our local area and throughout the world.

Finally, if you’ve not yet had the opportunity, I invite you to take home a FREE gift from the parish: Matthew Kelly’s new book, The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity. A provocative title, no?! Yet filled with the Good News of Jesus Christ, born on this day. The books are available at the church entrance.

Next week, we will have another free gift available for the Epiphany. See you next week and check it out.

See the bulletin or website for lots of upcoming events in the new year.

Again, Merry Christmas, and may God bless us, everyone.

In Christ, Fr. Kelly

FOOD PANTRY Thank you to the Freemasons Mount Olivet Lodge for do-nating and delivering 75 rotisserie chickens to the food pantry before Thanksgiving. This special treat is now an annual tradition that our regular guests appreciate. Thank you also to the many parishioners who have responded to our requests for specific items. Our most needed items currently are crackers, peanut butter, jelly or jam, nuts, trail mix, granola bars or cereal bars, juice, coffee, and shelf-stable milk. We would also welcome donations of cat food as some of our guests have reported that they are having difficulty affording food for their pets. We are continuing to collect donations of laundry detergent and grocery bags.

MASS INTENTIONS AT ST. PAUL’S Mass Intentions for daily and weekend Masses are being accepted. Masses may be offered to remember those who have died, for those who are ill, as well as in thanks-giving for a birthday, anniversary or for a special inten-tion. Please contact the Parish Office during the week for details and to reserve a particular Mass.

LIVE THE LITURGY

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Families are complicated systems. They can be the most transforming or the most hurtful of experiences. Our fami-lies of origin have a huge claim on who we are and who we will become. While families need to help us fulfill some of our human needs, this cannot be their sole purpose or focus. Healthy and happy families consist of folks who al-ways have their eyes on the needs and best interests of the other individuals who make up their family unit. We live in the greater family of the world, which is also God's family. It can't only be about us. We must focus our gaze on the needs and well-being of our brothers and sisters. This whole seeing allows us to see others as God sees them. The Holy Family is the perfect example of how all families can work: our families of origin, the families in which we now find ourselves, and the family of our world. May we look to their example in helping us fine-tune our systems of family life so that God's presence can truly be revealed in and through them!
