REFLECTION: GET REAL! Those of us who flatter ourselves that we have a “realistic” view of the world may listen to the first reading today and say, “Get real!” when we hear Luke’s account of the early, Elysian days of the Christian movement. All seems to be rosy, lots of wonders are performed, everyone shares selflessly, they eat together in “exultation,” and the Lord added to their numbers? Well, who wouldn’t be at-tracted to a group like this? From the wind that swept through the upper room at Pentecost as the Spirit of God blew over the face of the waters in Genesis, and the fire that appeared over each disciple as the light appeared at the dawn of crea-tion, Luke’s intent in Acts is to show a new creation, a restoration of creation’s orig-inal goodness through the working of the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit who continues to make us into the Body of Christ. We may occasionally, like Thomas in the Gos-pel, say, “Get real!” but our ultimate reality in the Spirit is to work continually to make our Christian community a new creation, one in which others will find God’s joy and beauty. Only 2 of every species of creatures of the earth, and

one human family could go on the Ark. They had to

keep each species separate, follow instructions, wait for

the storm to pass and for things to get better. Kinda like

us today. Hang in there it will get better. Give thanks

to the Good God when it is over!!!

COVID 19 PANDEMIC REMINDS US OF A LESSON Thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to our Church and its Ministry in spite of the closed doors, and darkened Sanctuary. It was sad when Jesus, in form of Eucharistic Bread, was removed from the tabernacle and the tabernacle candle was extinguished. We know it will all be restored one day soon.

The Ministry of the Church does not stop here, we see it at work every day in the news. We see people step up from everyday life to pack food boxes and distribute them because their neighbors do not have enough food; we see doctors, nurses, aides and other medical professionals get face to face with victims of this virus. We see the able elderly pitch in to make face masks for people they do not know. In the gro-cery stores our neighbors continue to go to work to make sure their we can get the basics of daily life. Emergency caseworkers for the county and state turn their homes into make-shift offices so they can continue care for the children, elderly, sick and poor. Prayer groups use social media to keep connected through prayer. Look closely and you will see our parishioners boldly continuing the work of the “church”, doing as Jesus taught us, to care for each other’s needs, to “wash each other’s feet.”

Not all contributions are financial, they are also of time and talent. God bless you all as you contribute in whatever way you can as we wade through this pandemic.
