Liturgical Ministers’ Schedule

TODAY’S READNGS FIRST READING: The just ones, because of their faith, shall live (Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4). PSALM: If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Psalm 95). SECOND READING: Bear hardship with the strength that comes from God (2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14).

GOSPEL: The apostles said to Jesus, Increase our faith (Luke 17:5-10). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass (c) 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

REFLECTION: A LITTLE FAITH Today our readings are about faith, frustration, and how much is enough. Habakkuk is a complainer having an argument with God. Timothy is encouraging a community challenged by cowardice and the apostles want more faith than they have. Things aren t happening fast enough for any of them or for us. All of them and we want God to do something sooner rather than later and we want God to give us a reason to believe that it will all work out. What does God do? God puts it back on them--and us--telling Habakkuk to describe the world he wants; telling the apostles to do more than the expected. Doing more with less is a familiar phrase today and a reminder that a little faith may be enough even for the most difficult times.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Jon 1:1 -- 2:2, 11; Jon 2:3-5, 8; Lk 10:25-37 Tuesday: Jon 3:1-10; Ps 130:1b-4ab, 7-8; Lk 10:38-42 Wednesday: Jon 4:1-11; Ps 86:3-6, 9-10; Lk 11:1-4 Thursday: Mal 3:13-20b; Ps 1:1-4, 6; Lk 11:5-13

Friday: Jl 1:13-15; 2:1-2; Ps 9:2-3, 6, 16, 8-9; Lk 11:15-26 Saturday: Jl 4:12-21; Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12; Lk 11:27-28 Sunday: 2 Kgs 5:14-17; Ps 98:1-4; 2 Tm 2:8-13; Lk 17:11-19

All parishioners are invited to join us in answering Our Lady's request to pray for world peace.

For the 2019 Christmas Sale, the Saint Paul Rosary Altar Society is re-questing volunteers to assist with preparing decorations for the upcoming Christmas Sale. Beginning the week of October 7 and extending through the week of November 4, members of the RAS will be meeting in the Par-ish Hall kitchen each Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to create the decorations. If you have any artistic abilities, or are simply willing to assist with miscellaneous duties as the decorations are prepared, we would be pleased to have you join us!

Remember, it is 2 Masses/family. Families where there have been funerals in the past 12 months (and you did not schedule Masses at that time) you are eligible for 3 Masses. If we get through with scheduling and then there are still masses available, they will be posted in the bulle-tin in the new year.

At the same time you can schedule Altar Flowers so that they will be here on the day you have the Mass Intention. Once again the gift for Mass Intentions will be $10.00 each. The base offering for Altar Flowers is $60.00, but you can choose to go up from there if you like.

Please come on the morning of the 9th prepared so the line moves quickly and smoothly. Please pack you patience.

Do you have a loved one who is seriously ill? Is your loved one at home, hospice, or a nurs-ing home? We want to extend this sort of unofficial celebration to the needy in our community.
