THE FULLNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The church wakes up to an amazing message this morning. Look around and see who has been called. Listen to the voices of those who proclaim Jesus is Lord. You'll find no race of people left out; you'll find no language on earth unfit to proclaim the glory of God. We call Pentecost Sunday the "birthday of the church." In many ways, the church is still being born. Only when we all know the peace Jesus offered in today's Gospel will we really know the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

St. Paul assures us in today's second reading that "all of us have been given to drink of the one Spirit." When we look around us in the church we should see everyone. But we don't. Not yet. What is holding us back from fully embracing the one Body of Christ? When will we see our differences as manifestations of the same Holy Spirit?

TODAY'S READINGS

First Reading -- Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm -- Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading -- In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13) Gospel -- Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23) or John 14:15-26.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Monday: Jas 3:13-18; Ps 19:8-15; Mk 9:14-29 Tuesday: Jas 4:1-10; Ps 55:7-23; Mk 9:30-37 Wednesday: Jas 4:13-17; Ps 49:2-11; Mk 9:38-40 Thursday: Jas 5:1-6; Ps 49:14-20; Mk 9:41-50 Friday: Jas 5:9-12; Ps 103:1-12; Mk 10:1-12 Saturday: Jas 5:13-20; Ps 141:1-3, 8; Mk 10:13-16

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You have already come, and unite

myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Lord, I am not worthy that You

should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

DECLARATION OF NULLITY

Many people have had the misfortune of a divorce. If you, or a potential spouse, have been divorced there is HELP for you to move on to a happy Catholic marriage.

Many think that the declaration of Nullity is ONLY for a Catholic but in truth anyone who was divorced and wants to marry a Catholic must also seek the declaration of nullity before the marriage can take place.

The diocese has a Tribunal specifically dedicated to care for those needing this all important ministry. PLEASE, DO NOT wait until you plan to remarry to contact the

Tribunal, as the entire process may take up to a year to complete.

There is NO COST to you for this service. Why not get started today. Contact the Tribunal at 919-821-9759.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION PROGRAM

Do you attend mass but are NOT Catholic?

Are you married to a non-Catholic who has voiced an interest in our faith?

Were you baptized Catholic but never received any other sacraments?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions please call us to enroll in our next RCIA program that will begin in the fall. We meet every Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:30 in the FLC.

Our goal is to help you become educated in the faith and to prepare you to receive the sacraments.

Sessions are informal and interactive, our goal is to educate and answer the questions presented by those in attendance.

Please call the church office at 252-638-1984 to register or Marcelene McLure at 252-497-0619 for detailed information.

THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INVITE YOU!

Come one, Come all! Please accept our invitation to our

Fifth Sunday Rosary!

Sister Monique Dissen, IHM will lead us in the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., on Sunday 29 May, in the Chapel.

The time is between Masses, so scheduling should be conducive to everyone attending! It would be wonderful to

have attendance require us to move to the Sanctuary!"

God Bless us all, please spread the WORD!

CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY

In and through Christ, God is visible in his mercy. He speaks of it and explains it in parables, but above all he himself makes it incarnate and personifies it. HE

HIMSELF IS MERCY. To the one who sees it in him, God becomes “visible” in a clear way as “the Father who is rich in mercy.” (Pope John Paul ll in Misericordia)

In this Jubilee Year of Mercy let us live every day in the glorious message of past seasons that Jesus, Emmanuel,

is with us still – forever – as merciful Savior and Advocate. Even when we move away in our thoughts, words and deeds, he is here for us, for

he never moves!! Have mercy on us, Jesus.

Join us for the Chaplet each Sunday at 10:30AM in the Chapel

FOOD & CLOTHES DRIVE

All donations will help needy families, not just in our church but throughout the community. When doing your spring cleaning, please think about the families you

will be helping.

You can drop off your gently used clothing or food items at Nohora Cepeda’s house (Trent Woods -1114 Park Drive - side door) or call 229-9886 (after 3PM)

A FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM

Bishop Burbidge invites the Faithful to participate in the fifth annual Fortnight for Freedom, a 14-day celebration of our religious freedom. The theme this year is "Witnesses to Freedom." As part of the

theme, we will celebrate exemplary witnesses to freedom, including Edith Stein, Oscar Romero, and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Witnesses to Freedom will celebrate the values of our faith with respect to the gift of life, marriage, conscience rights, health care and many humanitarian concerns.

As part of our observance of the Fortnight, you are invited to join with Bishop Burbidge for the celebration of Mass on Thursday, June 23 at 6:30 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raleigh. A reception and picnic sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will follow the Mass.

For more information: www.dioceseofraleigh.org/fortnight-for-freedom.
