Misas de Intención para la semana

More on the Council of the Catholic Church

Process • At the beginning, all attendees take an oath that they will remain faithful to the Church and their boss. The text of the oath was written by Pope Gregory VII in 1709. • The Holy Father has the power to decide the issues to be discussed, interrupt the session or move it to a later date. • The work is divided into several commissions - the Congregations - before being presented to the general discussion. • The environment of the assemblies of the early Church is found in the regulations of the Council itself. The votes are nominal and by majority. Although the Pope gathers only a minority around him, it is always his point of view that prevails. • In the first Councils, whose convocation was in the care of the emperors, each question was once to the approval of the participants who answered by "placet" (yes) and "non placet" (no). • When they have received the approval of the Su-preme Pontiff, the conclusions of the Council are prom-ulgated by a Bulla (pontifical constitution).
