Presentation of the Bread and the Wine at Mass In the rite of the presentation of the offerings during the Mass, the Church uses the same signs and gestures that Jesus made on the eve of his Passion to make present the sacrifice of the new covenant, sealed by Him on the altar of the Cross. Thus, the bread and wine are brought to the altar, using the same elements that Jesus took into his hands. In this spiritual offering of the whole Church; the life, the sufferings, the prayers and the hard work of all the faithful are gathered, which are united to those of Christ in a single offer-ing. That is why it is very good for the faithful to present the bread and wine to the priest so that he can present them on the altar. With the prayer over the offerings, the priest asks God to ac-cept our humble offering and to transform it with the power of the Holy Spirit into the sacrifice of Christ. This moment of the Mass is imbued with a profound spirituality of self-giving, which illuminates our whole life and our relationships with others, helping us to build the earthly city in the light of the Gospel. Therefore, it is very important that at the time of the presentation of the bread and the wine, you present your intention or gift to God, and at the same time ask him to give us in return what he considers best for us or for those that we pray for. Let us remember we offer him bread and wine and he gives us the Body and Blood of his only Son.
