The practice of tithing provides a regular reminder of your dependence on God. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faith-fulness and enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs.

When you tithe you enable those whom God has called to serve as pastors, ministry personnel, and parish leader-ship to faithfully build up the church accomplishing the works of Christ in our parish!

Blessed Christmas and prayerful best wishes for a graced and happy New Year.

This Christmas we invite all who worship with us to consider ‘Rediscovering your Catholicism’ through your relationship with Jesus Christ. In dynamic ways you can deepen your membership/ministry in Saint Peter Parish. I invite you to prayerfully consider sharing your journey of faith with our parish community. Through prayer, service, and faithful stew-ardship your time, talents, and support for the works of Christ you can have a real impact in northwestern Chester County. St. Pope John Paul II, speaking of the ‘New Evangelization’ of the Catholic Church (and by extension the re-evangelization of St. Peter Parish), is NOT to be a ‘new program,’ but rather a return to the Gospel. St. Pope John Paul II encouraged the re-engaging a life of faith with these components: 1) a new missionary spirit; 2) a new fervor and excitement using all the means of media and communication; and finally, 3) a focus on ‘entire groups’ of the baptized who have lost a sense of the faith, or even no longer consider themselves members of the Church, and live a life far re-moved from Christ and his Gospel. What is needed is a “new evangelization” or a “re-evangelization. First, and foremost, will be ‘A Reliance on Prayer’. Your presence with the church family this Christmas clearly con-nects you and your family with the church family. We are glad you are here. As a result of prayerful reflection and discernment, we are opening our Leadership and Ministries in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, to awaken on the parish a new birth of grace and hope. In the coming months we will engage in two significant assessments of Catholic faith life in the families of our parish. The Disciple Maker Index (DMI) will gather spiritual and pas-toral insights from you and others in the parish. See another part of this bulletin for more details regarding this confidential and private instrument. The ‘In-Depth Assessment’ will aid our Parish Pastoral Coun-cil in their responsibility to plan, implement, and evaluate the Parish Pastoral Plan as we look to the next three to five years. The Assessment will be conducted among engaged ministers of the parish. We know the Word of God, made flesh at Christmas and made manifest at the Epiphany, continues to speak to the women and men of this generation. Glory to God in the highest and may the peace of God’s presence among us be a rich blessing to your family in this special season of grace. Father Fitzpatrick

In full compliance with Vatican directives and Archdioc-esan guidelines, low-gluten communion hosts are offered at each Mass for those who have special concerns regard-ing wheat and wheat products. Directions for receiving the low-gluten hosts will be given at the time of the Communion Rite.

The Archdiocesan accounting practices re-quire our parish office to post money re-ceived “after December 31, 2017” in the new year (2018). Please be sure to mail pay-ments in time so they reach our office by Thursday, December 28, so your 2017 tax

statement reflects your contribution.

“There are many hearing me who now

know that they are not Christians because

they do not love to give. To give largely

and liberally, not grudging at all, requires a

new heart.”

Robert Murray McCheyne (1813-43) Scottish pastor

Music Ministry

4th Sunday of Advent December 23 & 24, 2017

First Reading 2 Samuel 7: 1 - 5, 8b - 12, 14a, 16 When King David was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a tent!" Nathan answered the king, "Go, do what-ever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you." But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said: "Go, tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in?'

It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth. I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old, since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you. And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever."

Responsorial Psalm (for 7 a.m. Mass only)

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

Second Reading Romans 16: 25 - 27

Brothers and sisters: To him who can strengthen you, according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic writings and, according to the command of the eternal God, made known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Gospel Luke 1: 26 - 38 The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

“Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And be-hold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God." Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

What do you thirst for most in life? Some want recognition, others ac-ceptance, love, and more. Underly-ing all our desires is a deeper thirst:

a thirst for God. Jesus is seeking us out too, beckoning us to come and see and follow Him as disciples, but more so as his friends. In this new Ascension Press Bible Study, journey through the Gospel of John and encounter anew the love of God in Jesus. Experience the joy of a closer relationship with Christ, and see how God—and only God—can satisfy the deepest desires of your heart. Partici-pants receive a workbook and meet each week to view an engaging video presentation by Dr. Edward Sri, followed by a lively group discussion and fellowship. Dr. Sri will explain how Christ’s encounters in the Gospel show how he lovingly and persistently calls each of us to a more intimate relation-ship with him.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Thank you to all those who've made and donated shawls and lap blankets or materials, and those who've delivered them! The notes we receive from recipients and the feedback from those who gifted them are touching and inspirational. A number of beautiful items made in prayer are available, so if you know some-one experiencing a difficult time--perhaps a serious illness, time in the hospital or rehab, or the loss of a loved one--

stop by a gathering or contact Jan Smith at 610-269-1756 or [email protected]. We welcome your help even if you can't attend meetings, or knit, or crochet yet. Meetings are flexible: in Meeting Rooms A & B on Mondays 12 - 2 p.m. or Thursdays 7 - 9 p.m. on alternating weeks (see the Bulletin calendar for meeting dates).

Good Works: We are St. Peter Parish volunteers who join many other local Christian church groups in performing home repairs. We reach out in love and friendship to trans-form substandard houses into warmer, safer, and drier homes, and by doing so, turn des-

pair into hope. The team welcomes new volunteers of all skill levels. For more information or to be a part of Good Works, email Jim at [email protected] or call 610-496-1393.
