Pastoral Message
Catechetical Sunday On this weekend the church gives special recog-nition to the men and women who help in cat-echesis to educate our children, young people and adults in the faith; Today we make a special recognition to our catechists. Catechesis is a priority in our parish. Catechesis is the space we have to help and guide our children, youth and adults on the path of knowing Christ and making him the Lord of their lives. This would not be possible without the help and dedication of our catechists. On behalf of the parish, we express our gratitude to each of them, for their time and dedication, thank you for sacrificing your time, your family and your time of rest to be here every Sunday or every Tuesday to instruct, teach, accompany and guide Our students. Last Sunday at the beginning of our regular year of catechesis, I visited the classrooms to wel-come and greet the children, parents and, of course, the catechists. I told the parents that sometimes we forget to thank the catechists and teachers and all the staff who collaborate with the religious education program. So today we acknowledge our catechists. Thank you and con-gratulations, dear catechists. Please save the date of October 18 for a meeting with all the councils of the parish and the coor-dinators of all the ministries. We want to have a meeting with all the people involved in the par-ish, pastoral council, finance council, Steward-shio or co-responsibility, the parish staff, repre-sentatives of the school and other ministries. The purpose is to work together to look and plan the present and the future of the parish. For this we have invited Mat Schwartz of the "Parish Succes Group" program to lead this meeting. Mensaje Pastoral Dia del Catequista En este fin de semana la iglesia hace un reconoci-miento especial a los hombres y mujeres que ayudan en la catequesis para educar a nuestros niños, jóvenes y adultos en la fe; hoy hacemos un reconoci-miento especial a nuestros catequistas. La catequesis es una prioridad en nuestra par-roquia. La catequesis es el espacio que tenemos para ayudar y guiar a nuestros niños, jóvenes y adultos en el camino de conocer a Cristo y hacerlo el Señor de sus vidas. Esto no seria posible sin la ayuda y dedicación de nuestros catequistas. En nombre de la parroquia expreso nuestra gratitud a cada uno de ellos, por su tiempo y dedicación, gra-cias por sacrificar su tiempo, su familia y su tiempo de descanso para estar aqui cada domingo o cada martes para instruir, enseñar, acompañar y guiar a nuestros estudiantes. El domingo pasado al empezar nuestro año regular de catequesis visité los salones para dar la bienveni-da y saludar a los niños, padres de familia y por supuesto a los catequistas. Le decia a los padres de familia que a veces nosotros olvidamos dar las gra-cias a los catequistas y profesores y todo el personal que colabora con el programa de la educación religi-osa. Asi que hoy hacemos un reconocimiento a nues-tros catequistas. Gracias y felicidades queridos catequistas. Separa en tu calendario la fecha de octubre 18 para una reunión con todos los consejos de la parroquia y los coordinadores de todos los ministerios. Queremos tener una reunión con todas las persona involucradas en la parroquia, consejo pastoral, con-sejo de finanzas, Stewardshio o corresponsabilidad, el Staff de la parroquia, representantes de la escuela y demas ministerios. El propósito es trabajar juntos para mirar y planear el presente y el futuro de la par-roquia. Para ello hemos invitado a Mat Schwartz del programa “Parish Succes Group” para liderar esta reunión. Deacon Information Days The beginning of 2019 reopens the time period of accepting new applications to the Rockford Dio-cese Permanent Diaconate Formation Program. Men between the ages of 35 and 55 who are interested in becoming a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Rockford and who would like to apply must attend one of the three Deacon Informa on Days scheduled this Fall. For married men, wives must also attend. These days explain both the application process and give an overview of the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program. While there is no commitment required to attend one of these days, only those who attend will be eligible to apply. The dates are: October 13 November 17 December 1 All meetings are held between 10:00AM and 12:30PM at the Diocesan Administra on Building (555 Colman Center Drive, Rockford, IL 61125). Although not required, those interested are encouraged to contact the Permanent Diaconate Office (815-399-4300) to indicate which meeting they plan on attending or to ask further questions.

Did you know that St. Vincent De Paul helped 66 families in our region receive free furniture in 2017? Of those 66 families 28 families were within St. Rita’s boundaries! That’s 42%! We delivered 325 pieces of furniture plus loads of housewares (dishes, silverware, linens, pans, etc.) and clothes. So far in 2018 we have delivered to 48 families 260 pieces of furniture and we still have 20 weeks to go till the end of the year! Thank you for your generosity and support for St. Vincent De Paul – we almost filled the entire truck on our weekend. Blessings on you for what you do for the less fortunate. LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA
In our Gospel today, St. Peter makes his beautiful profession of faith in Jesus’ true identity. It is through that profes-sion that Jesus then proclaims St. Peter as the “rock” on which the Church will be built. He makes St. Peter the first
pope! All of this starts with the simple question that Jesus asks them: “But who do you say that I am?” It is a piercing question, and it is one that we should imagine Jesus asking each one of us. How would you answer that question? Who is Jesus in your life? Jesus does not want to simply be one part of your life amongst many others. He wants to be the center of your life! He wants to be higher than everything else and a part of everything else. It is not until you are willing to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord of your life that you will be able to discern your vocation well. Brothers and sisters, we are all here to give our lives for the glory of Jesus Christ. Do not be afraid to make Him the center of your life and subordinate everything else to Him. In doing so, you will be pro-fessing your faith in Him and opening yourself to Him so that He can do great things in your life, just as He did in the life of St. Peter.
