FORTY HOURS
Forty Hours is one of the most beautiful traditions of our Catholic Faith. St John Neumann organized the first diocesan scheduling of the Forty Hours Devotion in America. Parishes in the Philadelphia archdiocese have been celebrating this devotion since Bishop Neumann brought it to the United States from its origin in the churches of Europe. Visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is a wonderful opportunity for personal prayer and quiet meditation. Attending evening services as a parish community unites us in our love for Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist and reminds us of our great gift of faith – Christ’s Real Presence in our lives. Pope Paul VI wrote “To visit the Blessed Sacrament is … a proof of gratitude, an expression of love, and a duty of adoration toward Christ our Lord”. Pope John Paul II states, “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease”.
Come and visit Our Lord. Come to Forty Hours.
