MARCH 15, 2020— THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

Come join us!

Fridays: March 20,

27 & April 3 During Lent,

a simple supper of homemade soup and bread will be offered in the Church Hall preceding Stations

of the Cross starting at 5:30pm. Bring your family and experience a very special evening of fellowship with your parish family. You may sign up in the church vestibule to bring a crock-pot of meatless soup or bread/rolls to share at any of the suppers.

Ash Wednesday, February 26, and Good Friday, April 10, are days of fasting and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also

days of abstinence. Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, Church law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the Parish Priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and Catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Initiation into the Church or the renewal of Baptism Promises at Easter.

Donuts & Coffee Social Time

Please join us to meet new parishioners and catch up with some of the long-

timers while enjoying some coffee and a donut on Sundays,

March 15 & April 5 starting at 9:45am in the school gym.

The Knights of Columbus would like to thank all parishioners and patrons for their support of our Annual Spaghetti Dinner. A huge thanks goes to all the volunteers that made it a very successful dinner.

Please welcome our newly registered parishioners:

Blood Drive Update Thank you to all who donated blood last weekend. The American Red Cross was able to collect 25 units.

St. Therese Women’s Group Scholarship

for 2020 HS Graduates

Since 2005, the St Therese Woman's

Group has been awarding at least two scholarships in the amount of $300 to graduating high school seniors who are planning to pursue an associate's or bachelor's degree after graduation. The emphasis of this scholarship is the recipient’s active participation at St Therese and what being a member of St Therese means to them. Activities and service to and in the community will also be considered. Scholarship applications were given out in Mr. Farris's class. They will also be available in the church office. The scholarship applications need to be submitted by May 1, 2020, to Mrs. Joan Satterly, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Wilson, NC 27896 (Chairman of Scholarship Committee). The scholarships will be awarded at the Senior Breakfast sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in June.

PENANCE SERVICES

As you prepare for Easter, remember the most important part — your soul. Everyone

is urged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Lent

Season, so mark your calendars now! If you missed the penance service at St. Therese,

below are some other penance services in our area. All start at 7pm:

Thursday, March 19—ECU, Newman Center, Greenville Tuesday, March 24— St. Peter, Greenville Tuesday, March 31 — St. John the Baptist, Roanoke Rapids

RCIA— FIRST SCRUTINY

Today, the third Sunday in Lent, marks the beginning of the rites belonging to the period of purification and enlightenment for our Catechumens, now referred to as the Elect, in the RCIA program. The scrutinies, which are solemnly celebrated on Sundays and are reinforced by an exorcism, are rites for self-searching and repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong and good. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the Elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life. -Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Their Godparents and Instructors ask that you keep these Elect in your prayers during this Lenten Season so that they will be ready to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation — Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

CHURCH INTERIOR CLEAN-UP

Saturday, April 14 1pm—3pm

Everyone is invited! Please bring cleaning supplies, brooms, buckets, rags, etc. Many hands make light work for all. It is important to have the Church look good for Easter. The church belongs to all of us, so let’s chip in and work together!
