TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

LEGION OF MARY…

nursing homes. To Jesus through Mary. Meets

every Tuesday, 11:30am-1:30pm, Chapel (Sacristy). All

WE NEED YOU!

SERVE AS A CATECHIST OR AIDE — WHY?

The best way to learn is to teach,

Your own faith will come alive,

You become an active participant in one of the essen-

tial responsibilities of a Church community.

You assist in bringing Christ to others,

You practice stewardship.

You show your family that you value the Faith.

You become a role model.

Being a Catechist brings joy.

You make a difference in the lives of our young peo-

ple! A Catechist helps young people come to know

Christ and the riches of our faith by teaching weekly

PREP classes (25x yearly)

If you are interested in volunteering, contact PREP

732.251.1660.

The St. Thomas the Apostle Pipe Organ

was installed in 1986.

After 33 years of service, our pipe organ is in desperate

need of repair, renovation, restoration...and your help!

The Facts

* The pipe organ is played at over 400 Masses & numer-

Ours rehearsal each year.

* It serves the Parish on a weekly basis, school

liturgies, weddings, funerals and other special functions.

* The pipe organ accompanies a multitude of choirs, can-

tors and instrumentalists.

* There are over 1,000 pipes, 12 voices, 12 ranks, and 2

Manuals (keyboards).

The Issues

In the 1980s, when our organ was custom built, a changein

zinc manufacturing affected the pipe organ industry,

resulting in weakened metal pipes. As a result, MANY of

our pipes need to be replaced and many others repaired. 33

years of dust and incense necessitates the removal and

cleaning of all pipes. The original organ design allowed

for pipe work that was never installed. As a result, the

organ has no Principal Pedal stop and is missing other

stops that would be standard in an instrument serving any

parish. The pedalboard is completely worn from use. The

electrical system is in need of modernization, as technolo-

gy has vastly changed over the last 33 years.

The Plan

• The Console will be completely rebuilt or exchanged,

upgraded, and modernized.

• The Wind chests and bellows will be completely re-

leathered, providing 30-40 years of reliable service.

• The pipework and all related parts will be completely

cleaned, and all compromised internal zinc pipes repaired

or replaced.

• The Trumpet and Crumhorn pipes will be completely

revoiced and rescaled to correct the physical failure of the

original zinc pipework, providing vastly-improved tonal

resources and superior tuning stability.

• New pipe racking and supports will be put in place to

ensure stability.

• To replace the organ in its entirety, would be over

$500,000, so we want to restore it for many future gen-

erations

Contributions are greatly accepted! Please make checks

payable to St. Thomas Church, and in the memo section

write Pipe Organ Restoration.

that are in need. Please be sure your items are not used

and do not carry expired dates!

SAINT THOMAS THE APOSTLE PARISH AND SCHOOL, OLD BRIDGE, NJ

Why discuss the sexual abuse crisis now? The crisis is still

with us. Victims, families of victims, clergy falsely accused,

as well as people in the pews are suffering because of it.

Catholics need a way to better understand and feel hopeful

for the future of our Church.

Together in small groups for six weeks, parishioners will

focus on prayer, understanding the past, and reflecting on

a positive path forward.

Signups will be held next weekend after Masses in the au-

ditorium. Sessions will start September 23/24 evening and

September 25 morning. Living God, hear the prayers of

your people, who witness your presence in this world.

Amen.
